Job Description

Generali Global Health (GGH) business was established in 2015 as Generali’s specialist International Health unit, serving all globally mobile people. GGH has already shown considerable growth with ambitious future expansion plans particularly in Asia. We are recruiting a new senior Health underwriter to help shape and manage our profitable growth in Asia. The primary focus will be to provide technical support to new developments in Asia, manage the underwriting process and ensure new business / renewals of existing business are in line with our agreed growth and profitability targets. The role also performs as a key team member of Centre of Excellence (COE) – Health Asia, with a dotted-line reporting to the Regional Head of Health Asia, to support Generali Asia BUs with best practice guidelines in Health underwriting.    

 

Key Requirements:

The Senior underwriter will work closely with all areas within GGH, particularly in Hong Kong and London. It also supports the Centre of Excellence (COE) – Health Asia to provide Health underwriting best practices and guidelines recommendations to all Generali BUs in Asia. Key accountabilities include:

  • To lead the technical aspects of GGH’s Asian developments, liaising closely with the local operations, Regional Office and other areas of GGH (particularly the technical team).
  • To manage on a day-to-day basis the underwriting process for both new and existing GGH business in Asia. Liaising where necessary with other internal and external parties.
  • To ensure healthcare quotations support GGH’s growth and profitability targets.
  • To ensure quotations are produced in line with agreed service standards.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that risks meet with the legal and regulatory requirements as outlined by the company.
  • To keep up to date and communicate market developments in our chosen Asian markets, with a particular emphasis on competitor activity.
  • To support the Commercial team at clients meetings and presentations as required.
  • To support as the regional health underwriter under the capacity of the Centre of Excellence (COE) – Health Asia. Main responsibilities of this regional role include provide health underwriting advice and best practice guidelines for Health products for Generali Asia BUs.
  • To provide health underwriting training to BUs, and for regional health seminar events organized by GGH/Generali Regional Office.    

 

Key Requirements:

  • Degree of Mathematics or Statistics or equivalent
  • English, other languages are desirable
  • 7-12 years of Health underwriting experience
  • International experience is desirable
  • Underwriting Gathers and assesses background information. Evaluate relevant health risks of applicants for Health products, and apply consistent underwriting decision and rating. Calculates risk factor and negotiates terms. Draws up proposals, policies and contracts.
  • Technical Skills Possesses the technical skills and knowledge required to perform essential tasks in an efficient and effective manner. Experience in Health underwriting tasks spanning over reviewing health questionnaire/policy wordings, assessing the health risk factors, making risk-appropriate underwriting decision.  Demonstrates the willingness and ability to train or coach others in the technical arena. This is quite different than those individuals who lack technical skills or knowledge and/or have failed to demonstrate a willingness and ability to train others to perform well in technical assignments.

  • Communication Communicates effectively and appropriately. Uses good judgment as to what to communicate to whom as well as the best way to get that accomplished
