Job Description

Duties : Reporting to the Senior Safety and Administration Manager, the appointee will work as an active and efficient team member of the Safety and Health Unit to protect the well-being of the University community and the environment.  Main duties include the following:

 

  1. Perform safety and environmental inspections/audits and risk assessments, and conduct environmental surveys for indoor air quality to ensure compliance with legislative and University requirements;
  2. Conduct safety and environmental training for user departments, and arrange environmental promotional programmes for the strategic development and sustainability initiatives;
  3. Advise user departments on collection of hazardous waste disposal [including chemical (both liquid and solid), radioactive and clinical waste], and maintain the hazardous waste stores;
  4. Attend to emergency calls, investigate accidents, prepare investigation reports and compile accident statistics;
  5. Co-ordinate calibration and maintenance of safety system and monitoring equipment;
  6. Collect and analyze different qualitative and quantitative data for various sustainability initiatives; 
  7. Conduct various environmental audits, and compile relevant reports;
  8. Liaise with internal clients and external organizations (including the government) to explore partnership opportunities for green community projects, and expand green voluntary network for outreaching the general community;
  9. Monitor waste reduction/recycling activities, and co-ordinate promotional programmes to raise awareness and adoption of good environmental practices amongst the University community; and
  10. Perform any other assignments.

Requirements :

  1. A good honours degree, preferably in Environmental Science/Occupational Health and Safety/Marketing/Communications, or related disciplines;
  2. At least 3 years' relevant post-qualification experience;
  3. Strong quantitative, analytical, graphic design and computer skills;
  4. Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua), good communication and interpersonal skills; and
  5. Ability to work outside office hours, under pressure and independently.

 

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
