Animals Asia is an international animal charity devoted to ending the barbaric practice of bear bile farming, and improving the welfare of animals in China and Vietnam. We are seeking a passionate and experienced traditional Chinese translator to join our dynamic global fundraising team.

This is a part time position based in our Hong Kong office. This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to make a real difference in the animal welfare sector!

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

• Reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained and the story told;
• Using specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used;
• Using appropriate software for presentation and delivery;
• Researching legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation;
• Liaising with the internal team to ensure any unclear points are addressed;
• Proofreading and editing final translated versions;
• Prioritising work to meet deadlines;
• Retaining and developing knowledge on specialist areas of translation;
• Following various translation-quality standards to ensure legal and ethical obligations to the customer;
• On an adhoc basis, be supporter facing, speaking to Chinese speaking supporters on the phone or replying to communications.

Candidate requirements:

• Fluency in Chinese and English (native Chinese speaker preferred);
• A good understanding and in-depth knowledge of language;
• Excellent writing skills and command of grammar;
• Attention to detail combined with the ability to work quickly to meet deadlines;
• The ability to use initiative.
