Position Summary:

Firmware (FW) Engineer is responsible to participate to the FW development of new products to enlarge the portfolio or update existing products to improve Sierra Wireless competitiveness.

Job Responsibilities:

• Development of FW, this includes where applicable and not limited to:
• Requirement/feasibility analysis, issue triaging, development and integration of new features/enhancement/bug fixes for FW, performing unit level and integration testing as per software development process defined
• Support the effort to define and align with System Engineering, Product Line Managers, Customers Support teams and Project Manager to implement and deliver the committed deliverables, maintenance releases, emergency maintenance releases and bug fixes, and to provide the support needed
• Working with 3rd Party to provide FW development and maintenance service per requirement from each project
• Support and adhere to the relevant software development processes in compliance to ISO and CMMI requirements. This includes using and limited to tools for version control of source code, tools for code quality checking, tool for document control and issue tracking tool for tracking FW changes
• Carry out and track progress of assigned FW development/bug fixes/customer issues activities and testing against the published project schedules and provide input to designated team members
• Working collaboratively with different stakeholder team such as where applicable:
• Validation, certification, hardware, manufacturing & test, System Engineering, Product Line Managers and Project manager to deliver the committed project deliverables per schedule and quality defined
• Working with System Engineering, Product Line Managers, Customers Support teams and Project Manager to provide support needed
• Facilitation and participation in technical discussions with other R&D departments as appropriate (Validation, Hardware, Industrialization, Documentation) and present technical materials to customers as needed
• To study and to participate in knowledge transfer, and to prepare technical /presentation materials and lesson learned to share and disseminate knowledge acquired with Software team and other stakeholder teams

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor of Engineering degree essential preferably with Master or above degree in Electrical/Electronic/Telecommunications/Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related discipline
• 5+ years Real-time embedded firmware/software development using C/C++ and/or Linux OS/SDK/Driver development experience and/or Android or Windows CE development experience
• Hands-on experience on embedded software development, preferable in mobile telecommunication devices and/or Wireless Modem Solutions for M2M & IoT applications will be a plus
• Experience in working with wireless systems (GSM, GPRS, UMTS or LTE) and wireless applications such as cellular voice, SMS, data, IMS and VoLTE
• Experience with debugging Linux/Windows/Android/RTOS embedded systems
• Knowledge of software development best practices and hand-on software engineering skills such as QA testing, configuration management practices, integration, issue management and release management skills
• Capable to take part and contribute in requirement analysis and drive solution designs, development and integration and testing of complex product features towards their successful deployment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must. Must be able to understand and explain technical information in English in a clear and concise manner
• Good problem-solving skills, analytical by nature, ability to think on his/her feet
• Team spirit and ability/willingness to work in co-development scheme with other Sierra Wireless centers, professional ethic, self-initiated, flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and work under pressure
• Hands on experience in the following technical areas will be considered a plus: Wireless Modem AT commands, Linux and RPC/IPC, UART, CMUX, FOTA, OMADM, SIM Card & NVM management
• Knowledge of latest Cellular and IoT industry regulations and standards such as LPWA & 5G will be a plus
• Experience with Radio Interface Layer (RIL) development such as Android RIL will be a plus
• Programming skills on script languages such as Python and Shell will be a plus
• Experience with the ARM processor – architecture and tool-chain will be a plus
• Experience with developing Linux/Windows CE drivers or at least integrating existing drivers will be a plus
