Assistant Inventory Manager

We are looking for a competent Assistant Inventory Manager to monitor and report on the company’s inventory. Your job is important since the efficient handling of the company’s products and supplies is critical for the attainment of business goals.

A successful Assistant Inventory Manager is a reliable professional with excellent record-keeping abilities. They possess great attention to detail and a business mindset.

The goal is to ensure that all business operations have adequate material to achieve their objectives.

5 Key Responsibilities

  1.        Evaluate Suppliers
    You have the important responsibility of finding a supplier who will provide us with the goods needed to operate and be profitable. Part of that role means maintaining a good working relationship with suppliers by communicating and dealing with concerns or problems, such as a delay in an order being processed. In addition, you need to be aware of other available suppliers in the area who may be willing to provide our business with products at a better cost.
  2.        Prepare Documentation
    You are responsible for managing inventory documentation. They must accurately record the quality, quantity, type, style, and any other characteristics of the inventory so we have a clear understanding of what is and isn’t available. These documents also help us avoid shrinkage due to loss or theft because you always have a running tally. The documentation prepared by you can also be valuable information for marketing purposes and when determining strategies to effectively move inventory.
  3.        Purchase New Inventory
    You must have a constant knowledge of what inventory is left and what is running low. In the event inventory is low, you must manage ordering more from the appropriate supplier and negotiate pricing and a timeline for delivery.  Additionally, you will know when you have too much inventory and will know the correct steps for addressing that particular issue.
  4.        Track Inventory
    This is an obvious responsibility, but it’s an important one to acknowledge considering how integral knowledge of your inventory flow impacts all three of the duties mentioned above. Overall, you are responsible for ensuring your organization has the right amount of stock to meet customer needs and also to avoid overstocking items; which ties up cash and creates storage issues.

5.        Any ad-hoc duties deemed appropriate by the General Manager.

Ideal candidates will display:

  • Devise ways to optimize inventory control procedures
  • Inspect the levels of business supplies and raw material to identify shortages
  • Ensure product stock is adequate for all distribution channels, outlets and can cover direct demand from customers
  • Record daily deliveries and shipments to reconcile inventory
  • Use software to monitor demand and document characteristics of inventory
  • Place orders to replenish stock avoiding insufficiency or excessive surplus
  • Analyze data to anticipate future needs
  • Evaluate suppliers to achieve cost-effective deals and maintain trust relationships
  • Collaborate with warehouse employees and other staff to ensure business goals are met
  • Report to upper management on stock levels, issues etc.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as inventory management or similar position
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
  • Working knowledge of inventory management software (e.g. ERP, Unleashed)
  • Ability to accurately track inventory and create reports
  • An analytical mind with strong math skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Higher Diploma in business administration. logistics or relevant field;
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. CPIM) will be a plus
  • Immediate available definitely is an advantage
