Job Description

Job Overview

Reporting to Marine Director, the incumbent will support the Marine HR Department to improve the effective and efficient operations of Marine HR and to drive and support all business process improvement initiatives and inspire a continuous improvement culture ashore and onboard vessel. This will encompass the governance framework for optimal management and continuous process improvement enabling the right Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), concerning the customer, operational effectiveness and operational efficiency perspectives plus process performance, to be defined, automated and implemented.

Job Responsibilities

  • Execute and oversee systems to lay the foundation of a productive environment, set for growth and to use industry benchmarks to enhance the decisions, learning and continuous improvement
  • Manage the business portfolio, spread risk across spot and contract activity, reduce cost and maximize sustainable profitability
  • Implement policies and standards to ensure the crewing function is effectively and efficiently performed
  • Evaluate the return of business investments both in CAPEX terms and human effort, to create economies and efficiencies and to deliver the best value in business environment
  • Evaluate and map business processes to improve operational efficiency and reduce cost impact with aim to have a sustainable business model
  • Deploy Crew management system “Compas” to vessels and full functionality roll out for available modules. Optimization of onboard module, budget, insurance, self-service, evaluation, job specific dash boards, and training module integration with marine training centres
  • Identify gaps in systems and processes and improving efficiency
  • Standardize marine HR processes on global scale
  • Cost control monitoring across marine HR and various internal and external manning offices
  • Vendor management, standardization of invoicing and contracts
  • Manage tactical projects relating to business improvement or regulatory matters such as GDPR policy, framework and implementation for Wallem; electronic credit card based cash disbursement for crew and vessels
  • As part of the management team, to participate in the creation of group wide strategies, facilitate their implementation and contribute to the achievement of the business and strategic commercial targets and performance

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Maritime Management or related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years of Marine HR / Fleet Personnel experience in which at least 2 years at managerial level
  • Business process optimization in similar or different businesses
  • Knowledge of process mapping techniques. Ability to adapt and learn new business models
  • Financial knowledge to capture high level effect of sources of revenues and expenses
  • Working experience with teams of different nationalities and cultural background
  • Experience in change management and leading business improvement initiatives
  • Detailed understanding of all dimensions of marine HR and shipping industry
  • Understanding of accounting and business-related software applications
  • Proficient in MS Office. Good command of spoken and written English
