Job Description

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

Department of Government and International Studies

The appointee will work on a high-profile undergraduate programme in European Studies which combines intensive language training with a social sciences curriculum. The programme includes a one-year combined study/work phase in Europe. Apart from teaching, the appointee is also expected to supervise students’ final theses related to politics, public policies and economy/business in German-speaking countries written in German. Languages of instruction are German and English.

Requirements:

  • a relevant Master’s degree or a PhD degree in historical and contemporary area studies of the German-speaking countries of Europe;
  • experience in teaching general European cultural/social/economic history is essential;
  • experience in teaching German as a Foreign Language, curriculum development, and management of student exchange and/or industrial placement programmes would be an advantage; and
  • dedication and strong commitment in education within and beyond the classroom.

Candidates should have strong links to German/Austrian higher institutions of education and are expected to liaise closely with the German, Austrian and Swiss Consulate Generals in Hong Kong and Macau, and the German Academic Exchange Service in Hong Kong.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of one year commencing September 2019. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
