SR. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT TECHNICIAN (underwear)

 

Position Summary

Responsible for driving the quality of the product within the product development process with the manufacturers of Intimate/underwear products. Primary responsibility is to oversee the development of sewing methods, garment construction within the product for determined categories driving best costs. Accountable for transferring Red Seal 100% complete garment development into production environment and bridging Quality for a successful line start up.   

 

Essential Functions

  • Execute the direction of Sr. Product Development Technical Manager and facilitate this direction and information to Manufacturer’s.
  • Work with and advise Technical Designers/Pattern Makers & Sample Room Machinists/Sewers on garment construction and development.
  • Fully develop and set up construction sewing details in PLM/NGC system based on design sketches/direction with most cost-effective stitch construction and quality expectations for that product, in preparation for tech pack hand off to manufacturers.
  • Work with manufacturers in factory, after development tech packs are sent on executing sewing standards, construction details and machine needs on fit sample requirements.
  • Review, Spec and Measure development stage samples from manufacturers to insure integrity of garment as specified from tech packs.
  • Ensure during the development process from Concept thru Preproduction that all products have sustained manufacturability in the production environment as well as optimal cost methods of construction.
  • Manage and validate cost efficient usage of materials, trims in markers and construction methods. 
  • Transition all key product sewing and construction inputs and knowledge to the Quality Team and Engineering Team by conducting preproduction meeting, to ensure success in the bulk environment with clear expectations and 100% complete.
  • Review in line sewing and preproduction line start up’s in manufacturing as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Design, Product Development, Material Services and Sourcing regarding fabric, components, fit, and quality on new and existing products. 
  • Monitor and communicate regarding fabric and trim consistency during development process.
  • Drive the development process with manufacturing and contractors on issues with patterns, markers, sewing, and specifications on site or remotely.
  • Recommend any/all changes and updates in construction details to Design and Product Development team based on cost savings, manufacturability success and/or technology advances. 
  • Responsible for entering the garment evaluation results into the PLM system for preparing supplemental photo data to visually illustrate results.
  • Knowledge on fixing sewing machines on-site and give sewing guidance to sewing operators and mechanic.
  • Review any/all modifications with the Sr. PD Technical Manager on products proposed by Contractor and/or QC and/or Sourcing, Communicate and seek agreement from Sr. PD Technical Manager Garment Engineer before progressing.
  • Timely reporting of project and task status, contractor trip reporting, and development construction feedback consistently following established process.
  • Evaluate possible contracting facilities for machinery capabilities and safety regulations for compliance with company’s production and quality requirements.
  • Manage team, workload and priorities while Sr. Product Development Technical Manager is traveling or out of the office.  
  • Ensure integrity in the PLM system.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Garment Manufacturing/Construction or equivalent required. Emphasis on pattern and marker making a plus.  
  • Ten years of Product Development and Quality Assurance experience in an Undergarments Apparel Manufacturing environment. 
  • Solid working knowledge of sewing techniques, stitch properties, and garment construction.
  • Working knowledge of basic knit and woven fabrics – characteristics, properties, production feasibility, cost, and the impact on garment fit.
  • Strong working knowledge working with vendors, manufacturing and operations capabilities.
  • Good English language skills in speaking, reading and writing.
  • Excellent computer utilization skills, MS Office (Word, Excel), Power Point and AI required.
  • Excellent communication, decision making, problem solving and interpersonal skills required.
  • Frequent travel overseas(about 60% of time).
