Department: Airline Purchasing

Reports to: Manager Purchasing – Marketing and Product

The Airline Purchasing Department’s mission is to help the business in satisfying the customers’ needs and delivering tangible benefits by continuously improving the strategic management of the supply network.

Working closely with internal departments and external suppliers, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing hundreds of millions of HKD in marketing spend in order to create incremental value for the company.  The successful candidate will lead a team of three in the design and implementation of a multi-year category strategy, as well as on-going category management, sourcing, and strategic supplier management of key marketing partners, including advertising agencies/media buyers, loyalty marketing agencies, social media marketers, external PR/event organizers amongst others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Marketing Procurement Team in the strategic management of the  hundreds of millions of HKD  of marketing spend
  • Provide supply market expertise and analysis to relevant internal customers, including the Cathay Pacific (CX) Marketing Department and Asia Miles
  • Partner with internal customers to ensure business requirements are clearly defined
  • Develop winning ‘go-to-market’ sourcing strategies and negotiation plans
  • Manage the RFx process as appropriate and guide the team in key RFx/sourcing initiatives
  • Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers to obtain the best possible value for CX
  • Develop performance measurements for on-going suppliers and professionally manage commercial relationships to continually seek improvements
  • Consolidate and monitor the spend on a long-term basis
  • Develop the purchasing skills and competencies of your direct reports

Job Requirements:

  • Degree holder preferably in Business and/or Marketing related disciplines preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years relevant strategic purchasing experience  in which 3 years in supervisory or managerial capacity
  • Previous experience in the aviation or marketing industry is a definite advantage..
  • Strong commercial acumen – analytical and numerical, strong commercial negotiation skills and solid contracting experience  a must.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively at multiple organization levels and engage with senior
  • management
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Additional proficiency in Cantonese a plus.
  • Willingness to travel when required
