Job Description

ESTATES OFFICE

The appointee will assist the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Section in providing a healthy and safe environment for teaching, learning and research as well as advancing the EHS performance of the University. He/She will be involved in managing EHS programmes, particularly in laboratory safety management, supporting the research development in accordance with the University’s Institutional Strategic Plan and fostering safety culture among the University community members. He/She will mainly be responsible for implementing action plans and providing consultation relating to chemical and biological safety, dangerous goods and chemicals management, animal safety management, laboratory design, radiation safety and hazardous wastes management. He/She will also be required to assist in other health and safety programmes including campus health and safety, legislative compliance, risk assessment, emergency response and EHS promotion.

Applicants should possess a recognised degree in Science, preferably in Chemistry, Biology or Biochemistry, and at least six years of relevant post-qualification experience including solid work experience in laboratory safety. Possession of a valid Registered Safety Officer qualification is an advantage. Applicants should also have good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, good interpersonal and communication skills and proficiency in computing applications. They should be self-motivated and detail-oriented. Ability to plan, organise, execute as well as to deliver work according to timeline and prioritisation are essential. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two years.  Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
