PAO YUE-KONG LIBRARY
Library Assistant (Access Services) (two posts) (Ref. 19061406-E)
Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the Library’s spatial environment and physical facilities, including book stacks, furniture and remote storage;
(b) deliver circulation services at the Loan and Return Counter and perform shift duties during evenings, weekends and/or public holidays;
(c) communicate to users the Library’s policies and procedures and implement Library’s regulations;
(d) assist in the processing of Library card applications, compilation of statistics, collection of fines and issuance of overdue/recall notices or lost book billing;
(e) handle inter-library book lending requests from other UGC-funded libraries via the Hong Kong Academic Library Link (HKALL);
(f) update records in the integrated library system for titles selected for book exhibitions or new books on display;
(g) support back office administrative duties;
(h) support Library’s space enhancement or automation projects, such as the relocation of seating and shelving, and the implementation of RFID self-checking services; and
(i) perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) five passes in HKCEE including English Language (at least Grade C if Syllabus A; Level 2 if results are obtained from 2007 onwards), Chinese Language (Level 2 if results are obtained from 2007 onwards) and Mathematics; or a combination of results in
five HKDSE subjects of Level 2 in New Senior Secondary (NSS) subjects / "Attained" in Applied Learning subjects / Grade E in Other Language subjects, and the five subjects must include English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics;
(b) at least five years of administrative or supervisory experience;
(c) good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese;
(d) proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Excel and Word; and
(e) good customer services and interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work within a team.
Preference will be given to those applicants with a bachelor’s degree.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
