Department: Airline Purchasing
Reports to: Assistant Purchasing Manager

The Airline Purchasing Department creates quantifiable value through the application of procurement excellence. We strategically manage the supply network to meet our goals of improving quality, reducing risk, increasing efficiency and optimizing cost. 

Under the Catering Team, you will support your Assistant Purchasing Manager - Catering, to work closely with the Inflight Services Department (ISD) team to manage procurement of high value Catering Services throughout the Cathay Pacific (CX) network and ensure a clear supply market strategy, the effective implementation of contracts with our suppliers, the achievement of the best possible pricing in the market and the appropriate management of our suppliers. 

Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the Purchasing Executive are as follows:

  • Actively participate in supply market research and feedback product and commercial information to the Menu Planning & Development team in ISD.
  • Assist the Assistant Purchasing Manager and Purchasing Manager in the development of supply strategies, in conjunction with ISD, for relevant categories of spend. Manage the purchasing processes for the categories as assigned.
  • Professionally manage contractual and non-contractual relationships with relevant suppliers and continually seek improvements from the supply market.
  • Lead supplier assessment and bench-marking processes. Conduct detailed analytical work for planning purposes.
  • Establish, in collaboration with ISD, performance measurements for managing on-going supplier relationships. Negotiate with suppliers to obtain the best value for CX.
  • Provide a value added professional and ethical purchasing service which satisfies the client department’s business needs through the adoption of best practices ensuring achievement of quality and cost targets.
  • Assist in the development of creative and innovative approaches to the market which:
    • promote the value of CX to suppliers;
    • access supplier innovation and benefits, if possible before the competition;
    • maintain maximum independence and opportunity for future flexibility;
    • minimise risk and exposure for CX;
    • develop, where appropriate, committed supplier relationships.
    • Provide support to the Assistant Purchasing Manager - Catering and carry out any other relevant duties which may be required.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Business Studies or Food & Beverage.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in Procurement and/or Catering/Inflight.
    Previous experience in the aviation industry and knowledge in Catering Services/Food & Beverages a plus.
  • Solid experience in product/supply market research, cost evaluation and contract management.
    Proven ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel at multiple levels in the organization.
  • The ability to understand and benchmark on a continuous basis the relevant supply markets to help introduce top quality and innovative products/services.
  • Strong analytical skills, presentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Well developed teamwork and people skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results within deadlines.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (additional proficiencies in Mandarin a plus)
  • Basic financial analysis skill.
  • Strong PC literacy in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel overseas as necessary.
