Job Description
DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED BIOLOGY AND CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY
Research Associate (Ref. 19062010)
[Appointment period: eighteen months]
Duties
The appointee will assist the project leader in the research project - “Big-data-enabled collaborative database for non-targeted contaminants detection”, initiated by the Food Safety Consortium.
He/She will be required to carry out research and development of the project in the area of generation, selection and verification of data in particular those related to food production, food safety, and food control management. He/She may be required to
travel occasionally.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a PhD degree in Food Science or Life Science, or equivalent qualifications;
(b( expertise in nucleic acid techniques and experience in bench-level experiments, for example, culture of microorganisms, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, genotyping, WGS, RNA-Seq,
etc.;
(c( experience with laboratory equipment, record-keeping experimental data, and troubleshooting experimental protocols;
(d) competence in consulting with other scientists or studying scientific literature as needed;
(e) strong analytical skills, good interpersonal and communication skills; and
(f) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.
Preference will be given to those who have experience in bioinformatics tools and data analytic methods.
