Job Description

CENTRE FOR HOLISTIC TEACHING AND LEARNING (CHTL)

CHTL works in partnership with academic colleagues to foster continuous quality learning and teaching at HKBU. It aims to reinforce the student-centred, whole-person and outcome-oriented ethos of learning and teaching in the University. Within its remits, CHTL plays an active role in supporting Teaching Development Grants (TDG) projects, Community of Practice (CoP) initiatives, special projects on teaching and learning innovations, as well as assists the University in evidence collection for Whole Person Education through assessment of students’ attainment of the University’s Graduate Attributes.

The appointee will mainly provide educational research support to the Centre by (a) designing and adopting appropriate research methodologies (both quantitative and qualitative); (b) conducting and coordinating data collection activities in various scales; (c) managing data from different projects/sources; (d) performing subsequent data compilation, analysis and report/paper writing; and (e) performing other duties as assigned by the supervisors.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, preferably in Science, Social Sciences, Statistics, etc.;
  • three years of relevant post-qualification work experience;
  • excellent command of English and Chinese (Cantonese or Putonghua);
  • good communication, problem solving and analytical skills;
  • be proactive, well-organised, detail-minded; and
  • strong sense of responsibility.

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Doctoral degree in a Science discipline or Educational Research;
  • proven track record of handling large datasets, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis; and
  • high proficiency with Excel, analytic tools (such as SPSS and NVivo), and compiling academic reports and papers.

Candidates with less academic qualification and/or experience may be considered for the position of Project Officer.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to two years, commencing August 2019. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
