Job Description

English Schools Foundation      Website: http://www.esf.edu.hk

The English Schools Foundation (ESF) is a modern, well-managed educational organisation, committed to offering an international education to students drawn from over 70 countries. We are proud to be at the forefront of the educational hub in Hong Kong. We actively take advantage of the opportunities that Hong Kong offers as Asia’s world city and the principal gate-way to China.

The curriculum, leading to the International Baccalaureate, is adapted to Hong Kong, and the Asia Pacific region. ESF’s 1,100 teachers are highly qualified bringing with them experience from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States, the UK and many other international school systems. All schools offer a broad range of out-of-school activities in Hong Kong and overseas.

ESF has over 17,000 students. Our culture is one of joy in learning and pride in achievement. The great majority of our students study for the IB Diploma and gain entry to universities all over the world. ESF has a long-standing commitment to children with additional needs and is the principal provider for English-speaking children with special educational needs in Hong Kong. For further details about ESF, please visit our website at http://www.esf.edu.hk/.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an exceptional communicator to lead our internal and colleague communications. We are a family of 22 schools located across Hong Kong, with over 2500 staff based in our schools and in our central functions. Reporting to the Communications Director, this new role will ensure that we are engaging and communicating with our colleagues, giving them every opportunity to actively contribute to the future of our organization.

You will have a strong track record of working in communications in a large organization. You will have the ability to run engagement campaigns that excite and draw in our colleagues – and you will have verbal and written communications skills that set you apart from the crowd.

You will play a leading role in developing and then maintaining our new social intranet – and you will have the confidence to find any and all opportunities to grow our already outstanding culture of collaboration across our schools.

This is a key role for ESF – so we are looking for someone truly remarkable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Director of Communications, you will help establish an internal communications strategy for ESF.
  • Ensure organisational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to our colleagues across our schools and in our central functions.
  • Maintain the ESF Social Intranet
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications channels.
  • Draft messages or scripts from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form
  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organisation.
  • Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages.
  • Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly
  • Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect organisational perception and reputation.
  • Advise senior executives of developments throughout the organisation, either face to face or through regular written communications.

Requirements

Writing skills: You need excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees

Speaking skills: You also need strong speaking skills as you are likely to be called on to give presentations to staff.

Interpersonal skills: You need good interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with our schools and our other central function. You also need to possess the confidence to deal with senior executives and explain communication techniques to them.

Creative skills: You need the creative ability to devise communication strategies that engage our colleagues effectively

Digital Skills: You will need to have the ability to work effectively with the content management system that drives our social intranet.

Qualifications:

A degree in marketing, communications or another relevant subject is required.

Experience:

At least 8 years of working in an internal or colleague communications environment – preferably in a large organisation.

The ability to communicate fluently in English is essential.

Project management experience is desirable, but not essential.

Applicants must be a permanent Hong Kong resident or possess a valid visa to work in Hong Kong.
