The investment arm of a global bank is looking for a Hong Kong qualified lawyer with 3-5 years of experience to join their risk and compliance team:

Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Counsel who manages the property team, you will be responsible for:
• Advise and assist in the formulation and drafting of policies and procedures in response to changing legislative and regulatory frameworks and the business needs
• Advise senior managers, and colleagues across the organisation in a practical and commercial context that identifies and advances solutions to problems
• Assist in legal matters including but not limited to managing litigation and arbitration issue of the Company, contract review, provide legal advice on general issue of the Company
• Alongside policy development, provide legal and compliance training to the business when required and develop through network an improved awareness and understanding of legal implications, risk and compliance
• Providing accurate, relevant and timely advice to various members of the business on a variety of legal topics
• Delivering timely and high quality legal advice to the business all in a practical and commercially focused way in relation to all relevant matters that reduce risk, resolve issues and maximise the opportunities for the business
• Managing and mitigating legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures.
• Company secretarial tasks
• Ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business.
• Staying up-to-date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect our business and specific industry.

Requirements

• Qualified solicitor with 3 - 5 years’ in-house legal experience gained from sizable financial institutions
• Chinese skills will be critical as a lot of legal documentation will be in Simplified Chinese
• Demonstrate an ability to identify risk, good commercial awareness and a clear and effective communication style
• Understand the pressure points, strategy and objectives of the business and effectively communicate the risks and legal issues involved in any decision to management. This enables management to make informed strategic choices within an acceptable legal risk profile.
• Excellent negotiating and drafting skills.
• Ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks in terms that non-legal colleagues can understand.
