Job Description

The General Manager of Merchandising is a new created position in a global sourcing organization to oversee all the private apparel development & merchandising for e-commerce multi-brand customer portfolio. The key is too manage a complex sourcing model and drive business volume through  formulating strategic vendor matrix, develop effective design and sample development plan, set high-level costing strategies and allocate sourcing across global vendors. This person will be managing a ‘low volume high variety’ fast fashion business model to cope with creative and complex customer demand.
 
Strategy & Innovation

  • Collaborate with internal sales team to recommend best-in-class sourcing strategies and innovative programs for short term and long term sourcing development. Articulate the strategic direction for each product category to achieve the right balance of key items/fashion/basics, fit, value, price point, SKU count and volume; leverage competitive market intelligence to gain and maintain marketplace advantages
  • Lead and support Design teams to provide innovative and relevant product with diversified SKUs for each collection.
  • Drive development of key initiatives to maximize margins, and minimize costs, including commitments to raw materials and production capacity, and collaborating with factories on conservation and efficiency

Operation & Leadership

  • Work with corporate functional team to ensure product integrity and innovation while driving margin improvement and high-perceived value of the product.
  • Coordinate with customers, colleagues at other divisions, corporate resources and shared services, and direct reports to create and drive merchandising/product development calendar for optimum operational efficiency; review and adapt processes to meet business needs.
  • Guide presentation of line to senior colleagues and key accounts and buyers; strategize and review, where applicable, collateral for in-store marketing needs.
  • Contribute positively to team dynamic and manage up as appropriate to insure strategic and tactical goals of the portfolio are met/ exceeded.
  • Attract, develop and retain talent; create appropriate succession plans.

Customers & Relationships

  • Cross-functional leadership role to maximize business opportunities in line with brand integrity.
  • Partner with sales and customer buyers to implement comprehensive costing and pricing framework to maximize consumer value

Candidate Profile

  • Extensive experience in managing the apparel sourcing function activities: Product Development, Costing, Commercialization and Production Management
  • 15+ years’ experience working with large retailers and International apparel Brands with fast fashion or eCommerce experience
  • Entrepreneurship to build and drive business performance for a new division
  • Expertise in leading sourcing initiatives on low volume high variety sourcing and vendor knowledge globally in each apparel category
  • Ability to manage senior stakeholders internal and external to build/maintain the relationship
  • An ‘ innovator’ rather than ‘ imitator’, able to challenge the status quo
