Job Description

Position Overview

Based in Hong Kong, the role will manage Greater China tax matters across all of MMC’s business activities. The role will cover Hong Kong, Macau, China, Taiwan and Mongolia and may be called upon to assist with other matters in the Asia Pacific, when required. The role will be a member of Marsh & McLennan’s (“MMC’s”) Asia Pacific Tax team reporting to the Head of Tax, Asia Pacific or his delegate to be determined, who is based in Singapore. The role also will work closely alongside MMC Tax colleagues based in various countries worldwide.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Providing tax-advisory support and direction to various MMC colleagues on general tax matters in the Greater China region. Interfacing with MMC Tax colleagues on global initiatives and dealing with any relevant issues arising for the Greater China region.
  • Identifying risks and opportunities, as well as planning, designing and managing tax projects to appropriately manage MMC’s effective tax rate and tax-compliance requirements.
  • Working with relevant business functions across the Greater China region to ensure supportable tax positions for business transactions, reviewing permanent establishment exposures, withholding tax consequences, etc
  • Providing analyses and recommendations of tax positions, and effectively engaging with key stakeholders (in and outside the MMC Tax team) to ensure communication and understanding of such matters.
  • Managing tax audits and dispute resolution initiatives in conjunction with Finance and Controllership.
  • Supporting the quarterly and year-end group tax reporting processes. Review and contribute to the determination of tax provisioning of open corporate income tax issues based on submissions made by the Controllership.
  • Reviewing the tax returns and tax summary memorandums of key MMC entities across the Greater China region produced by outsourced service providers to support Controllership in determining appropriate tax filing positions, as well as to identify tax risks and opportunities.
  • Effectively managing the use and performance of external tax advisors so as to ensure appropriate external tax advisor fee spending.
  • Providing appropriate levels of tax training to various MMC colleagues, when required. 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent qualification is desired
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience gained from public accounting practice and/or in-house tax positions, primarily around corporate income taxes
  • Demonstrable experience of dealing with tax matters in the Greater China region is essential
  • Candidate who is understanding of US tax principles and US GAAP will be advantageous
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skill in matrix environment
  • Written and verbal fluency in both English and Chinese
  • Occasional travel might be required
