Duties:

Project Background

• Our client is a Hong Kong's leading  research university in Asia, committed to excellence in education and research. The Information Systems Office (ISO) is responsible for the development, support, and operation of the administrative systems serving the University, covering such areas as finance, human resources, procurement, estates management, admissions, student registration/records, and a wide spectrum of student services. A good part of our systems being complemented by a suite of other off-the-shelf and in-house developed mobile systems;
• ISO is currently seeking qualified service providers with consultants to support the development work relating to various mobile application;
• This is due to high demand from projects that require mobile native skills, as it is a strategic
  initiative of ISO in enabling the schools and offices, which is significantly exceeding bandwidth of the ISO resource pool. As a result, we are requesting professional constancy services to accommodate their need in the next twelve months.

Key responsibilities and deliverables:

• Work with project manager or business analysis, to leverage the mobile technology and to
  provide the HKUST staff and students with comprehensive and easy access over nowadays
  smartphones to some of the common HKUST services through mobile apps;
• Support project manager/business analysis for documenting functional specification
  include UI prototyping and design logic;
• Detail discussion with end user in all aspects of development life cycle;
• Establish and execute Unit Test plan and SIT plan;
• Work with the project teams and assist on users User Acceptance Test;
• Troubleshoot and resolve production-related issues as they arise;
• Develop configuration specification.

Development work of the following projects is planned for the consultants, and this may vary based on the strategic direction and plan of ISO.

• Student Information System
• Expense Reimbursement System
• Travel Approval System
• Leave Approval System

Nature of Work

• The consultant(s) will be assigned to work for the above project(s) during the contract period. They will work in a team environment, along with ISO staff and under the direction of Project Manager. Actual project assignment will depend on project needs, the background and experience of the individual;
• In general, the consultant(s) will likely be involved in backend activities for the development cycle, in such aspects as detailed design, program development, testing, and packaging for the implementation. System interface, data conversion/migration and report writing are significant areas of work. It is expected that the Consultant will maintain proper documentation.

Requirements:

The following technical skills, complemented with hands-on knowledge are required:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in HTML5, Node.js, React Native development;
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in REST API, SOAP Web Services development;
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in responsive web and mobile layout design;
• Minimum 2 years’ mobile development experience with Objective-C, Swift, Kotlin, Java, JavaScript, CSS.

System Development Skills:

• Taking specifications/directions and be able to develop groups of program units using structured methods;
• Performing complete functional and structural testing at unit level;
• Preparing system, program and user documentation.
• Good interpersonal skills are essential as high-level teamwork is expected;
• Proactive, problem-solving and willing to learn new technologies;
• Consultants assigned must be fluent in English, and preferable if Cantonese too;
• Formal computing qualification with 3 or more years’ experience as a software developer is expected.
