Job Description
We are retained by our client to hire a Linux Systems Engineer with experience of MQ Messaging, Websphere App and Portal servers experience. This is an opportunity to join a global team working for one of the major global banks.
We are looking for competent systems engineers with Middleware support experience. The role would cover some or all of the following aspects, installation/maintenance/support of Linux software, experience of VMWare will be an advantage, and your Middleware experience should cover installation, support, maintenance and the performance monitoring of Websphere Application Server (WAS), Websphere Portal Server (WPS), MQ Messaging.
Depending on your technical background and level of experience, you will:
- Carry out product installation and administration according to standards
- Take part in troubleshooting roster providing out of office hours support for production issues
- Research and evaluate products in support of the technical strategy. Study, design and implement new infrastructure technology according to the standard and governance. Help to develop the technical competence of other teammates in new technology.
- Develop scripts and configure tools to automate housekeeping and monitoring, including capacity management and planning, backup and job scheduling
- Conduct performance monitoring and tuning
- Maintain High-Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions
- Work closely with application teams and provide consultancy services and technical advice
- Create and maintain various configurations and administration documentation
To be successful, you should meet the following requirements:
- University graduate with a relevant degree
- Competent skills in one or more of the aforementioned Middleware and relevant working experience
- A self-motivated team player with good project management skills
- Able to think “outside the box”
- Effective communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships different levels
- Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines and be prepared to work occasionally during out of office hours, including weekend days and nights
