Job Duties:

Agency Chemist 1

a) To prepare all quality manuals including the quality assurance protocol, standard operating procedures and sectional working manual which conform to the requirements of Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme ("HOK.LAS");

b) To review all the testing methods and record and ensure they conform to the HOK.LAS requirements ;

c) To negotiate with the Hong Kong Accreditation Service ("HKAS") executive and proceed the application procedures for obtaining the accreditation;

d) To prepare all the relevant documents including the quality manuals and testing procedures when HKAS executive perform the preliminary visit and assessment;

e) To maintain the operation of testing procedures, materials used, qualification of equipment and staff in GCMTI inconformity with HOKLAS requirements;

f) To work out the technical specification for collection of Chinese Materia Medica ("CMM") and the corresponding voucher plant or animal specimens from different localities;

g) To assist in the procurement of necessary apparatus, reference standards, chemicals and consumables for the operation of the Chemistry Laboratories; and

h) To carry out any other duties as assigned by supervisors/senior staff.

Agency Chemist 2

a) To assist in collaboration with research institution for Phase 2 of the research project such as preparing technical specification and work instruction to direct service provider to produce DNA data in accordance with GCMTI developed protocol and quality control plan;

b) To plan the outsourcing schedule and prepare sample registration for authentic CMM to be outsourced for data collection and also for data management;

c) To review and record the status of each CMM curated in the Hong Kong Chinese Material Medical Standard program and collect samples for collaboration;

d) To assist in the procurement of herbal reference materials which were deteriorated or not available in Department of Health and source agricultural farms or research institutes to provide such reference materials;

e) To carry out literature reviews about the indigenous localities of CMM and critically evaluate the flowering seasons of all CMM and prioritize for procurement;

a) To assist in the procurement of necessary apparatus, reference standards, chemicals and consumables for the operation of the Chemistry Laboratories; and

b) To carry out any other duties as assigned by supervisors/senior staff.

Requirements of Staff:

a) have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry from a Hong Kong university or equivalent;

b) have ten years' of relevant post-qualification laboratory service experience;

c) have sound understanding and hands-on skills in the application of chemistry and/or DNA-related laboratory equipment for a sizeable institution which conducts scientific and analytical work;

d) preferably have relevant working experience in the Government or public sector;

e) have good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese;

f) have strong analytical, organization, co-ordination, customer service, communication and interpersonal skills;

g) have strong skills in project management; and

h) be proficient in PC skills in particular the application of MS Office such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
