Job Description

A top tier US law firm is now hiring a new position for an Accounting Specialist.  This role reports to the Accounting Manager or Accounting Supervisor

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing professional and complex accounting duties which require familiarity with accounting practices and procedures, and knowledge of a wide variety of prescribed accounting codes and classifications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and adjusts/closes journal entries.
  • Computes and analyzes complex budgets, schedules, or client statements. These may include but are not limited to payment/billing schedules, client account analysis, or internal department budgets.
  • Reviews general ledger accounts then makes corrections and adjusts balances.
  • Reconciles and balances subsidiary ledgers such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, employee advances, and capital accounts, then enters them into the appropriate general ledger accounts.
  • Develops spreadsheets to organize and keep record of normal and uncharacteristic payments.
  • Maintains, files, and coordinates A/P records in agreement with firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Verifies accuracy of expense reimbursements including application of travel advances.
  • Communicates with vendors and internal customers about requests and updates them on the progress.
  • Assists with special projects on various topics as needed.
  • Promotes effective work practices and works as a team member.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field
  • Three (3) years accounting experience desired.
  • Well developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the Firm.
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping procedures such as posting, balancing, debits and credits, and journal entries.
  • Analytical skills
  • Organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in PC Applications, including spreadsheet software and operations, ability to set-up complex mathematical formulas in Excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Elite (Advantage)
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
