Job Description

Manchester United already have a long established footprint in China, having been one of the first sports brands to launch localised Weibo and WeChat channels, a Chinese language website, application and a presence on video platforms like Alibaba’s Youku. The club wishes to hire a country manager to significantly grow reach and engagement in China, and launch new accounts to reach and engage new fans in the market.  

Core Responsibilities:

  • Ownership and responsibility of Manchester United’s Media brands/channels in China, including:
    - App and website growth
    MUTV carriers and rights holders in market, in order to grow the brand and the Premier League in China.
    - Cultivating and growing the MU China accounts, including Weibo, Wechat, Youku and Douyin
    Maximise opportunities on platforms, such as WeChat mini-programs and Youku Tmall integration.
    Overseeing the partnership with Hupu, Alibaba, Bytedance and managing relationships with major media platforms and broadcasting channels in China
    Driving consistent growth and brand visibility in China.
  • Identify and drive marketing channels to accelerate growth in China.
  • Working with the Brand team to maintain brand consistency across the China website.
  • Collaboration with wider teams, including in order to drive growth efficiently.
  • Analyse KPIs and data daily (using proprietary data and native social media tools) to improve content, maximise sales opportunities, increase reach, and formulate future strategy
  • Responsible for Media P&L of MU in China, including KPIs around reach, engagement and users.
  • New partnerships to grow reach and amplification of content.
  • New product launch, Merchandise range launch and other cross-business initiatives in China.
  • Research customer demographic/gap analysis in order to identify growth areas for the brand.

 Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years digital marketing / editorial / business experience in a results driven role for a consumer brand
  • Experience of Chinese commerce management a plus
  • Agency / Partner management experience required
  • Experience running digital / social channels for a consumer brand
  • Fluency in English, Mandarin
