Job Description

We are looking for a high calibre engineering professional to join the Digital Systems Branch of Technical Services Department. Reporting to Engineer I, the appointee will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Plan, source and procure new telemetry, digital, automation and electronics equipment to meet project timeline, budget and required standards
  • Develop strategy, perform feasibility study, design, integrate, develop and promote new systems or services by applying profitable technologies, standards and applications to meet the Company’s business needs
  • Maintain both hardware and software of the substation automation computer systems, including systems enhancement, and new applications development
  • Ensure all telemetry, computer and substation automation projects are tested & commissioned on time, within budget and meeting the required standards
  • Perform efficient and effective fault investigation, trouble-shooting, repairing and maintenance of equipment
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with various departments of project work and to plan, schedule, set-up proper procedures and precautions to meet the Company’s requirements and Safety Rules
  • Understand, evaluate and provide technical advice and recommendation for Smart Grid technology solutions including Distribution Automation, Substation Digitization, Grid Modernization etc.
  • Review, plan and support the maintenance and management of control measures for the Operational Technology (OT) systems under the branch
  • Review safety, work and other documents prepared by subordinates and contractors to ensure compliance with procedures and cost control principles
  • Perform duty under adverse weather conditions as and when required
  • Perform standby or emergency call-out duty outside normal working hours as and when required
Requirements: 
  • A recognized university degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computing Engineering or equivalent
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance and development of computer systems and digital electronics systems
  • Knowledge of CLP Power’s computer systems, telemetry and distribution automation systems is an advantage
  • Knowledge in wired communication, modulation, noise immunity and electronic circuitry
  • Knowledge in power system automation standards and communication protocols (e.g. IEC 61850, DNP 3.0, Modbus etc.) is an advantage
  • Proficiency in use of PC applications. Preference will be given to those with knowledge in computer programming
  • Positive safety attitude and good understanding in relevant statutory safety, health, environmental and quality requirements, engineering standards, codes of practice and procedures
  • Customer and result-oriented, self-motivated, good team player and able to work under pressure
  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese
  • Possession of a valid driving license is preferred
Candidates with less qualification and/or experience but demonstrate good potential for further development will be considered for a position at lower grade.
