Job Description

The Role

In partnership with school leaders, group functional leaders and external service solution providers, identify, introduce and maintain appropriate and innovative education technology provision to support 21st century international school learning approaches. Be responsible for resourcing and upkeeping school management solutions to reliably deliver their functionalities to school users comprising of pupils, teachers, operation staff and parents. The solutions include student information system, learning management system, school portal, teacher information platform and so on. In this role, one has to register, analyse system discrepancies reported by school users and develop plans to address the discrepancies. The postholder will need to understand school user’s needs and requirements, analyse these requirements and develop enhancement plans, you either work on the enhancements or with external partners, with the ultimate goal to deliver IT solutions that effectively deliver their functionalities to school users. 


Key Responsibilities

General duties:

  • Lead the IT Strategy planning, bringing current knowledge and future vision of new and emerging technologies and systems and best practice;
  • Through an in-depth understanding of the schools, contribute to strategic planning for both the education and ICT ensuring education needs are transformed into tangible technology initiatives;
  • Develop and revise processes and procedures, standards and guidelines relating to school’s systems/databases;
  • Understand and apply system wide workflow and processes as well as relationships with other internal and external databases;
  • Formulate and update relevant IT policy to guide the practices and behaviours of members in the community;
  • Manage the ICT operational budget and track the performance against set targets

Support for Staff:

  • Support and lead the management of all aspects of the school’s administrative and curriculum networks, servers, email and security systems providing a safe and efficient ICT environment for staff;
  • Work in close liaison with the Educational Technology Leaders to provide staff and pupils with appropriate IT resources, functionality and training;
  • Line manage and coordinate on-site school-employed ICT support technicians and ensure uninterrupted ICT support during school hours and when needed

Support for School:

  • Support the management of all aspects of the school’s administrative and curriculum networks, servers, email and security systems providing a safe and efficient ICT environment for pupils;
  • Support pupils with their personal devices in line with the school’s Bring Your Own Device Policy and ICT Acceptable Use Policy;
  • Support the implementation, monitoring and review of school procedures for managing and recording installations and configuration changes;
  • Support the management of the school’s network infrastructure, servers and workstations;
  • Deliver a regular maintenance programme of the school’s servers and core systems  and resolution of failures in hardware and software;
  • Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, welfare, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting any concerns to the Headmaster and Deputy Head
Key Requirements 

  • University degree in Computer Science/ Computer Engineering or equivalent discipline
  • Certified professional in one or more of the following industries: Microsoft/CISCO/Apple/Google an added advantage but not essential
  • Proficiency in programming is an advantage
  • Experience working in Education
  • Experience in managing various learning management system to fit school user requirements
  • Working experience supporting Windows-based laptops and desktops and Apple Computers and iPads; experience in mobile device support and management
  • Experience in working with both software development and hardware infrastructure building
  • Skills in photography and video-shooting; familiar with the editing process and media sharing - an added advantage but not essential
  • Self-starter with project planning and management skills; stronger team player
  • Excellent English (spoken and written)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills to compare and evaluate various products and solutions
  • Customer service oriented attitude
  • Flexibility
  • Being proactive in understanding the needs of end users and deliver solutions
  • Cultural sensitivities and ability to work across locations/regions

Malvern College Hong Kong (MCHK) 

opened its doors to its first pupils in August 2018. This co-educational day school will cater largely for international pupils, reflecting the truly multi-cultural nature of this vibrant city.     MCHK opened with 400 pupils in Prep 1 – Foundation Year 3 (Years 1-9) and will grow year on year to reach a capacity of 960 pupils in Years 1-13. In 2019-20 we anticipate having around 650 pupils in Years 1-10.
