Job Description

Role Summary

Ensure a profitable book of Motor Insurance business by appropriately evaluating the acceptability of risks within established authority levels and to make pricing recommendations to maximize profitability, controlling all aspects of the daily underwriting profile. Partners closely with the other Product teams to ensure a sustainable profitable growth strategy that keeps Liberty ahead of the market. Oversees a team of 11 people that works closely with Sales, Marketing, Operations and Claims to ensure our products and services meet customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates, sets and monitors the underwriting guidelines including day to day pricing and acceptance policies to ensure profitable underwriting results for all Motor lines of insurance business
  • Implements good underwriting practices and procedures
  • Evaluates risks involved and determines premiums and extent of coverage
  • Provide leadership to all direct reports and the rest of the team
  • Closely monitoring department performance; recognize team members for excellent performance and create action plans to correct poor performance as appropriate
  • Responsible for the performance, development and coaching of staff (e.g. hiring, termination, performance review and salary adjustments).
  • Be the key point of contact for Product department (with Sales, Operations, Claims, and other depts.)
  • Closely monitor performance of each channel/key partner both for growth and profitability
  • Develop a customized profitable growth strategy for each channel/key partner and work closely with Sales to implement it
  • Regularly meet with key producers to understand their needs
  • Partners with other local and global Product teams to implement advanced pricing models, analytics and other programs
  • Lead the rollout of new products, prices or other changes from the Product team
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, and Claims to develop strategies related to policy administration to improve customer experience through continuous improvement
  • Manages and controls all the expenses associated with the Motor Product department
  • To periodically participate in discussions with Senior Management in reviewing business results for decision making of company planning & strategy
  • Ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards/ regulations at all times.
  • Assist with the preparation of timely budgets, plans and forecasts
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Motor CPO

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree/ Professional Insurance qualification
  • Insurance designation (CPCU, ANZIF, etc.) preferred
  • Master of Business Administration or other advanced degree preferred Experience
  • At least 5 – 8 years of relevant motor underwriting experience.
  • Familiar with local market mechanisms, pricing strategies and also key intermediaries.
  • Sound technical expertise coupled with good business acumen. Skills (Necessary)
  • Solid experience of a statistical role within the personal lines insurance industry, preferable motor insurance
  • Excellent knowledge of motor insurance products and the motor insurance industry
  • Solid analytical skills and experience with analytical tools (i.e. Excel, PowerBI, SAS, SQL, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team.
  • Strong verbal and written communications (English and Cantonese required)
  • Strong leadership capabilities and budgeting management experience.
  • Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
  • Strong negotiation and decision-making skills also required
  • Solid understanding of the business objectives and operations.
