Sourcing Specialist (Senior Merchandiser) – Hard Goods

About Our Client:
Our client is a Global Fortune 500 expanding US buying office with a solid footprint across hardline and soft line product. With the rapid growth across the regions, they are now looking for experienced Sourcing Specialist in joining their dynamic team.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan and control the actions of potential selected sourcing units based on management and merchandise departments' commercial and development plans.
  • Organize international (or local) buyer travels and, when needed, engage in vendor site visits.
  • In collaboration with buyers, negotiate the best price for items.
  • Maintain frequent touch with external management to receive information on strategy and development projects, goods sales data, and market conditions that influence sourcing decisions.
  • Examine the marketplace to determine the best supplier for a specific product or category of products. Examine market potential, develop proposals to determine the cost and benefit of attending trade fairs and exhibitions, and, if necessary, arrange for external buyer attendance at events.
  • After orders are placed, ensures that order specifications are met and deals with problematic situations with manufacturers. When a quality or production issue emerges, spot inspect vendor warehouses. Visit factories to find new ways to address problems and create new opportunities.
  • Ensures that potential new vendors and factories can meet company Social Compliance and Cargo Security Programs standards and regulations.

Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree with +6 years of strong experience in buying office
  • Proven relevant experience in the retail industry in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom as a specialist in the given category or as a generalist in other categories.
  • Proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese
  • With a hands-on approach, learn about the buying office, manufacturing principles, materials, production process, U.S. customs, and international logistics and commerce.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and a track record of forming bonds
