About the team

The Customs & Trade team tackles international trade topics, helping ensure customs-related regulations are followed so goods flow as smoothly as possible across borders, from factories to distribution centers to places where lululemon stores are.  In addition to supporting and reporting on export-import operations, the team works on customs classification and valuation optimization, organizes the utilization of tariff preference or suspension programs, and identifies and mitigates trade risks.

A day in the life:

  • Based in Hong Kong, reports to the Director, APAC Fulfillment
  • Subject matter expert on customs and PGA regulations, tariff classification of textile and apparel products and other trade-related areas
  • Develop and maintain international trade compliance policies, procedures, SOPs, best practices and audit programs for APAC region in alignment with global trade team
  • Manage and build relationships with customs brokers/other vendors to ensure KPI commitments achieved; partner with trade associations to stay abreast of key industry developments
  • Support corporate strategy for international trade covering compliance, risk management, issue resolution and escalation. Provide support for new market and new product entries and liaise with global trade team on implementation of global initiatives and supply chain strategy
  • Develop robust metrics to analyze and monitor compliance and spend; formalize and execute broker entry audit plan and recordkeeping regime
  • Resolve challenges related to valuation, classification, country of origin, transfer pricing, anti-dumping/countervailing duties and other relevant customs risk areas; point person for all customs inquiries, investigations and audits
  • Evaluate and execute opportunities to introduce duty optimization programs through trade agreements (FTA, ASEAN, APEC, etc), drawback filings, reclassifications, free/foreign trade zones/bonded facilities and/or other mechanisms. Drive FTA success claim rates, forecast and deliver targeted savings
  • Build effective partnerships with internal business stakeholders and functional partners (such as distribution & logistics team, production, etc.) and provide trade compliance leadership, guidance and training as necessary
  • Lead trade management platform launch for APAC markets
  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies with current processes in the areas of trade related operations, such as duty payments, audits, HS classification, reporting and other strategic evaluations to bring value in APAC region
  • Lead, manage and develop team members; build a back up / support resource to sustain the daily operations

Qualifications:

  • University graduate in business, international supply chain management and/or trade-related disciplines is preferred
  • Ten years’ practical experience in in-house customs & international trade in APAC sales markets, with apparel and textiles exposure preferred
  • Expert level knowledge of international trade agreements, laws and regulations of applicable government entities including: AU/JP/KR/CN/MY/TW customs, AU/CN/JP/KR/ASEAN FTAs
  • Strong emphasis on China market knowledge is preferred
  • Understanding and practical knowledge of government hierarchy, logistics operations and market intelligence
  • Familiar with Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English language skills; Chinese/Japanese/Korean proficiency is a plus
  • Numeracy and analytical skills, strong attention to details, with a sensibility that balances theory and practice
