Responsibilities:

• Subedit copies translated from Chinese into English by a highly professional team of in-house linguists/editors
• Primary functions include proofreading and rewriting copies to achieve a high degree of clarity and readability
• Ensure copies of translated text conform to consistent academic and editorial standards established for the English edition of Hong Kong Chronicles book series, which will be published in 54 volumes over a span of 10 years

Requirements:

• Minimum 15 years of professional experience in subediting English-language copies of academic/media publications
• Native fluency in English and flawless editing skills, preferably in academic publishing
• High versatility in proofreading a wide range of subject matters about Hong Kong’s natural history, as well as its socio-economic, political and cultural history
• A bachelor's degree in journalism, history, communications and related fields preferrable but not essential
• A high level of accuracy and understanding of connotations and cultural references in translation
• Detail-oriented, well-organised, efficient project and time management
