The opportunity
EY provides tax advisory, transaction support and tax compliance services to some of the world's largest banks and financial institutions.
The FSO ITTS team is a multicultural group of tax professionals, based in Hong Kong but working extensively with the EY network across APAC and globally, serving international banking groups.

Responsibilities:
Your key responsibilities
Our clients are large, complex international banking and financial services groups, which we assist to manage operational tax risk, among other things.
We are looking for individuals with experience of operational taxes (e.g., withholding tax, indirect tax (VAT/GST), stamp duty, financial transaction taxes, etc.) to join our financial services tax practice in Hong Kong. We are especially interested in speaking to candidates with good working knowledge of Hong Kong stamp duty, but will also consider individuals with experience outside Hong Kong.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Review clients’ existing practices with a view to developing industry-leading operational taxes framework
  • Assist clients to develop and maintain processes, procedures and supporting documentation to support and manage operational tax risk across Asia-Pacific
  • Work with EY member firms to understand changes to operational tax legislation, regulations and practice across Asia-Pacific, and consider and communicate the impact to our clients
  • Coordinate with internal and external parties to ensure the timely delivery of sophisticated deliverables to clients
  • Build client relationships and demonstrate knowledge of client business
  • Provide timely and high-quality services and work products that exceed client expectations.
  • Build on technical competence by keeping up to date on trends, developments and technical authorities and apply them to complex situations
Requirements:
To qualify for the role you must have
  • An undergraduate degree, preferably with an emphasis in accounting, taxation, economics, finance or law (an advanced degree in economics, law, tax or accounting is desirable)
  • A minimum of 6-8 years of relevant tax advisory experience gained from sizable public accounting firm or financial industry with experience at a managerial level leading client engagements; candidate with less experience will be considered for a more junior positions
  • Experience in the banking industry is desirable, but not essential  
  • Experience across multiple jurisdictions would be an advantage
  • Strong tax technical skills (Hong Kong tax technical preferred but not required)
  • Strong negotiation skills, able to sustain opinion and handle challenges
  • Team player with strong communication skills
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
