You are a passionate and driven team member who is enthusiastic about technology and has demonstrated experience developing and executing employee communications programs. We are looking for self-starters who can work in a rapidly changing industry, tolerate ambiguity, and demonstrate problem-solving leadership with limited oversight.

Essential to the achievement of this vision is for our Human Resources team and function to communicate effectively to all internal constituencies to ensure their satisfaction and engagement with DFS as a workplace, as defined by our company strategy and core values.

As the Manager, Employee Communications, you will be responsible for working with HR leadership teams and various internal stakeholders to create line of sight to our departmental strategy, goals and initiatives, increasing employee engagement and creating advocates for the DFS employee brand. You will develop and implement successful communications strategies and tactics and assist in developing the strategic direction and overall communications it relates to HR initiatives and employee engagement.

You will also develop and execute HR-related change communications plans for the broader enterprise on issues including, but not limited to, performance objective setting, reward and compensation, and elevating the results of the annual Voice of DFS employee engagement survey.

You will work closely with the Corporate Communications team, including Internal Communications subject matter experts, to ensure that communications to all DFS are timely, clear, and consistent in tone.

Success will be achieved through your ability to cultivate a broad network and build relationships in order to identify, assess and prioritize short and long term communications needs that position the HR function as a capable, credible and proactive business partner to the organization.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develops innovative communications and messaging that link the employee community across geographies, business units and functions with HR initiatives and programs.

  • Develops strategic communication plans and deliverable timelines for all HR-led initiatives and change programs.
  • Works with department representatives to write and edit copy for announcements, change management programs and related intranet communications. Drafts, reviews, edits, and proofreads HR-specific materials relating to stores, merchandising and corporate divisions.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Legal, Communications or related field
  • At least five plus year’s professional experience in internal communications, change management or similar setting.
  • Proficiency in MS Microsoft computer applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) and email skills required. Knowledge of graphic design basics.
  • Communications related research, planning and/or project implementation.
  • Knowledge and experience in multi-cultural environments and with multi-regional employee base is a definite advantage.
  • Experience in employee engagement communications.
  • Proven team management skills leading, motivating, managing assigned team members to effectively deliver predetermined learning goals and objectives.
  • Exceptional writing, verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate broad concepts into understandable messages.
  • Experience managing printed communications (knowledge of design and printing processes)
  • Significant experience in copywriting, editing and communications planning.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills. Able to effectively operate in a culturally diverse environment and across a variety of position levels with astuteness and sensitivity.
  • Project management skills. An ability to define processes necessary to get things done, knows how to organize people and activities, and can identify opportunities for synergy and integration.
  • Organizational agility to get things done both through formal channels and informal networks. An ability to orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal.
  • Multidimensional leadership ability. Able to influence a team in both remote and direct contact situations.
  • Must have high degree of integrity and confidentiality with a keen sense of business acumen.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Able to work under stringent deadlines and high pressure and be able to prioritize a heavy workload with multiple deadlines. Ability to work independently and on weekends and outside of regular office hours, if/as required.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, working gracefully with others even when under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to work with complex issues and use logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. Comfort in delivering to senior management at all levels of the organization. Other languages a plus, including Mandarin and French.
  • Able to make sound decisions with relevant facts at hand. Does not shy away from advocacy or conflict.
