Job Description

Woolworths Group Asia currently comprises c. 600 team members in 16 cities across 5 countries including Greater China, Bangladesh, Thailand, Tokyo, and South Korea. The team is primarily responsible for supporting the Group’s sourcing and export strategies in Asia, and includes representation across Woolworths Supermarkets, Big W, Primary Connect, Summergate, Woolworths International, and more recently, WooliesX and CountdownX.

This is a key role in Asia Finance team, responsible for reviewing statutory lodgements, managing regulatory compliance and internal control matters of Woolworths Group Asia, including development and application of policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and ensure compliance and consistency in the delivery of all financial audits across entities in Woolworths Group Asia (Hong Kong, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Mainland China)
  • Review and ensure the company’s compliance with local tax laws across Hong Kong, Thailand, and Bangladesh, by ensuring that all tax filing obligations of the company are satisfied on time and without error. Connect closely with the Group Tax team to ensure compliance to the tax transfer pricing rules / documentation.
  • Review and update Transfer Pricing framework, policy, and agreement from time to time to reflect the latest business model for Asia businesses.
  • Connect closely with the Group Company Secretarial team to manage a range of company secretarial duties including but not limited to management of Annual Returns, business registration licenses, and preparation of Board resolutions / minutes.
  • Connect closely with the Group Treasury team to support documentations for local facilities and agreements, and review the application of Group Treasury policy in local operations.
  • Manage the Asia Supply Chain Financing program, and ensure effective processes with the responsible parties for smooth execution.
  • Review and develop effective policies and procedures across Asia in compliance with Group requirements to ensure effective risk management and internal control framework.
  • Lead the development/optimisation/rationalisation of legal entity structure where necessary, and support the set up of regulatory compliance framework for new business units if any.
  • Govern the compliance of Product Liability Insurance requirements from Asia Suppliers to support risk mitigation for the business.
  • Manage a central register of all contracts within the business and work closely with responsible parties to ensure appropriate controls are in place in regards to execution of renewed/new contracts and continuous management of vendor performance.
  • Connect closely with Group Legal for major contracts and documentation review and advice on legal terms and procedures.
  • Provide recommendations on streamlining compliance process flow to improve efficiencies and standardisation across Asia entities.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in accounting, tax, and other regulatory matters. Identify and manage the potential impact to the business and provide relevant training to impacted teams.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the business, and external auditors, tax agents, and other service providers to manage compliance, risk, and statutory obligations for each of the offices in Asia.
  • Drive other ad-hoc projects / assignments / initiatives as required.

  • All Woolworths Group Asia team members, including Senior Leaders
  • Group Function team: Company Secretarial, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Corporate, and Finance Shared Services.
  • External service providers including accounting, tax, legal, and company secretariat providers
  • Country leads in Thailand and Bangladesh Representative Offices

Key competencies

  • Excellent stakeholder and relationship management both locally in Asia and with various functions in the Australia Head Office
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with good command in written and spoken English. Chinese is not essential but would be advantageous.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and negotiate win-win outcomes with stakeholders across all levels
  • Must have can-do attitude with strong sense of urgency and accountability for seeing deliverables through to completion
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and high degree of initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple competing priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to be “hands-on” where necessary with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and propose, drive, and deliver improvements opportunities

Career experience

  • CA / CPA qualification with relevant degree
  • Minimum 5 years PQE in Big 4 accounting firm
  • Additional commercial experience working in a multi-national company would be an added advantage
