Job Description
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides exemplary customer service while working at checkout desk or as backup;
- Categorize and classify library materials, including books, CDs, films, newspapers, or other documents;
- Follow library standards and guidelines when classifying documents;
- Import bibliographic records from an external database of bibliographic records to internal library database;
- Researches records and makes updates as needed;
- Creates original records as required;
- Inputs data about materials into electronic catalogue to ensure users can locate books, serials, films, or other document;
- Ensure all material can be retrieved conveniently using standardized method;
- Consult with colleagues on improving cataloging process;
- Assist the Library Officer to work alongside subject specialists in developing the resources list for student and staff;
- Assists students, staff and parents with technology questions, locating materials and general library use;
- Determine appropriate treatments for series or multipart items;
- Assist the Library Officer to Organize large backlogs of materials;
- Organize materials according to highest priority;
- Assist in maintaining parts of the catalogue that pertain to collections under specific jurisdiction; Shuyuan, Chinese Cultural Centre, Archives;
- Report regularly to Library Officer and the Head Librarian Secondary;
- Conduct complex research that creates imaginative and inspiring library resources and displays; and
- Any other duties as required by ISF Secondary.
Requirements:
- Holder of the Certificate of Library Assistant (or equivalent);
- Work experience in a school library environment;
- Good knowledge of Chinese and English word processing, library information systems and other office software applications, e.g. Publisher;
- Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin);
- Able to work independently, effective organizational and interpersonal skills; and
- Provides exemplary customer service in Library at all times.
