Job Description

We are looking for a high calibre professional to join our Group Controlling team in Group Finance. Reporting to the Director – Group Accounting and Compliance, the key responsibilities and requirements of the position are summarized as follows:                                                     

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Centre of Excellence in technical accounting and financial reporting of the Group,  provide technical accounting advice and support to the Group’s finance teams and business units on applications of accounting standards and on complex transactions to ensure the Group’s compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Undertake technical research on accounting issues, evaluate and recommend solutions to finance management. Address technical accounting questions or concerns from external auditors.
  • Evaluate and assess the impact of new accounting standards on the Group. Lead, organize and monitor the implementation of new accounting standards across the Group.
  • Develop and continuously update the Group’s accounting policies. Implement changes in presentation and disclosures in the financial statements to ensure adherence to accounting, reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Achieve high professional standard on financial reporting of the Group and individual entities. Conduct quality assurance review on financial reports to ensure adherence to accounting and reporting requirements and proper implementation of new accounting or disclosure requirements.
  • Play an instrumental role in performing accounting functional review on potential investment cases across the Group, provide advice to management on accounting implications and appropriate accounting treatments and liaise with external auditor to ensure alignment.
  • Lead the production of the Group’s consolidated financial statements and relevant financial sections of the Interim and Annual Reports. Set a high standard for presentation and disclosures involving engagement with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Author of the Accounting Mini-series, an educational series to provide readers with a yearly overview of relevant topical and in-depth accounting concepts and their practical applications to CLP, and the Chinese version of the financial sections of the Interim and Annual Reports.
  • Lead, direct and develop accounting professionals to enhance the technical proficiency of finance staff across the Group. Develop and provide periodic technical accounting trainings to the accounting professionals.
  • Monitor latest developments in the accounting regime and regulatory requirements.  Undertake relevant technical research and formulate the Group’s views and provide comments on consultation papers on proposed accounting standards issued by the professional accounting bodies.

Requirements

  • A degree in Accounting or Finance and member of HKICPA or other recognized professional accounting bodies.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Big Four public accounting and/or sizeable public company, technical department experience is a plus.
  • Solid technical understanding of the Hong Kong or International Financial Reporting Standards and development of the accounting regime.
  • Good understanding of the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance and the Listing Rules.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, capable to cope with highly judgemental topics; able to support own views logically with solid justifications.
  • Good interpersonal skills and teamwork. Self-motivated, independent, and able to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent interpretation and communication skills, able to explain accounting and reporting issues effectively and concisely to different levels including senior management.
  • Good command of writing and presentation skills both in English and Chinese including Cantonese and Putunghua.

Experience in providing advice and delivering professional and technical trainings, or in partnering with and providing insight to cross functional and executive teams is a plus.
