Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Advice and Assistance
Provide advice and assistance to senior management on the business performance of their operations and on the financial implications of contemplated decisions or actions.
Supervise and maintain an efficient financial accounting section, providing direction to the accounting team to enable the preparation of accurate financial information.
Ensure that the accounting systems incorporate proper accounting principles, standards and classifications to ensure prompt, accurate, complete and consistent recording and reporting of data, as required for information, control and decision-making purposes.
Planning and Budgetary Control
Assist as part of the senior management team in the preparation of the Strategic Plan, ensuring cost and profitability improvements.
Direct the preparation of the annual budget, quarterly review, and the long range plans.
Review the budgets prepared to ensure they are realistic and based on the accounting principles and budget assumptions set by the top management.
Oversee a budgetary control system whereby actual performance data are routinely collected and reported against approved budgets and analyses are made of the variances.
Monitor the business environment and economic climate affecting the operations and internal operating conditions for the purpose of updating the budgets/plans.
Advise senior management on the financial aspects of future growth plans and ensure that basic financial principles are enforced.
Group Taxation
Monitor the group's taxation exposure by maintaining contact with external tax advisors, discussing with them any proposed changes in tax legislation to assess the effects of changes on group operations.
Review and advise on the group tax implications of any proposed acquisitions, projects or divestments.
Treasury Management
Ensure that adequate financing is available to group companies and that interest rates on overdrafts and general banking facilities are optionally utilized.
Monitor and control cashflows, managing the group's working capital.
Third Party and Statutory Reporting Matters
Maintain contact with external auditors to ensure that accurate annual accounts are finalised and cleared to the required time schedule.
Develop a strong working knowledge of the respective provincial, state and federal legislation governing the group's operations in Hong Kong and overseas (including the PRC) and maintain contact with the group's legal counsel to ensure full compliance.
Financial Policies, Systems and Procedures
Institute and strengthen financial and managerial controls within the group operations, critically evaluating existing management reporting systems and continually improving and expanding these systems to provide enhanced quality of information with minimum support.
Ad Hoc Assignments
Assist with special studies / feasibility studies to determine the financial justification of new acquisitions, new operations or capital projects and evaluate the impact on cash resources and overall results of the group.
Staff Management
Supervise the group financial accounting teams in Hong Kong and overseas to ensure that:
- employees are encouraged, where appropriate, to pursue higher professional qualifications;
- appropriate training is provided and staff are rotated in different jobs, to improve experience and motivation; and
- where possible, promotions will take place from within the department.
Qualifications
Degree in finance and accounting management together with well-recognised professional accounting qualifications.
Approximately 15 years of progressive and diverse financial and accounting management experience ideally within a sizeable environment with reputable organisations.
Some exposure to corporate finance, M&A work gained within an international professional accountancy firm or group environment would be advantageous.
Experience gained within Hong Kong listed companies together with knowledge of Hong Kong listing rules.
Up-to-date knowledge of regional economic and financial developments, particularly possessing the ability to interpret their impact in the Asia region.
Good understanding of financial management issues (banking, financing, tax planning).
Ability to evaluate, develop and implement internal controls systems, making constructive recommendations for action.
Excellent spoken and written English and Chinese is mandatory.
