Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To assist with the coordination of dog training classes both at SPCA premises or private premises as directed by the Dog Trainer and to help co-ordinate the use of SPCA facilities with other staff.
  • To assist in operational procedures for the effective management and performance of the Behaviour and Training Department, following protocols for any duty performed. 
  • To assist in preparing the monthly B&T report and keeping accurate records relating to the Behaviour and Training Department as directed by the Dog Trainer.
  • To assist in the continued development of the B&T initiative within the SPCA.
  • To assist in the daily work of the Homing Division, including animal handling, care, behavioural assessment and modification, environmental enrichment and animal selection for the adoption programme.
  • To assist in answering phone calls and managing the behaviour advice line.
  • To assist in data collection and report production as directed by the Welfare Operations Manager, Welfare Programme Manager, or Deputy Director of Welfare
  • To assist with any other clerical or administrative duties as directed by the Dog Trainer or Homing Division supervisors.
  •  Be aware of public relations issues involving the SPCA and in particular the Welfare Department and to help liaise with AFCD, private vets and any other relevant bodies maintaining a good working relationship.
  • To liaise with other departments within the SPCA on matters involving the Behaviour &Training Department as directed.
  • To assist in the promotion of the society at public events.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • A good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese
  • Experience with animal handling and care
  • Preferably have some knowledge of animal behavior
  • Associate Degree or above, with at least 1 year experience in animal welfare disciplines will be an advantage
  • Basic computer skills in Word and Excel
  • A genuine interest in animal behavior and enthusiasm in working with animals, including the development of skills and knowledge related to animal training and the science of animal behavior
