Job Description

Job Description

We hope to appoint a Full Time Educational Assistant for Individual Needs Department to start at Island School 2022/23 at our brand new school campus located at Borrett Road.

Learning Support Class (Individual Needs Department)

Candidates must be orally fluent in English and have an excellent standard of written English. The candidate must be able to support the development of secondary students’ literacy skills and numeracy skills. The successful candidate will support students in mainstream lessons across the curriculum, including the school’s cross-curricular inter-disciplinary topics amongst others, as well as in small groups and individually when withdrawn. An ability to be flexible and imaginative in your responses to students’ learning will be very important. This is particularly important because the target students have a range of S.E.N. including dyslexia, dyspraxia, ASD with the common feature being a weak understanding & use of language. During face-to-face learning, the post involves supervision of after-school Homework Club for two days each week, which is a vital support for students with weaker self-organization.

Any candidate must complete a written letter of application stating their previous experience, why they would like this particular post and what skills they can bring to this role. Completion of this letter is essential if the application is to be taken further.
