Project Title: Impact of Fee-Free Supplementary Tutoring in English on Underprivileged Secondary Students’ L2 Motivational Selves in Hong Kong: A Longitudinal Narrative Inquiry
[Appointment Period: 16 months]

The appointee will work on a research project related to Hong Kong underprivileged secondary school students’ English learning experience in fee-free supplementary tutoring. He/she will be required to conduct literature review, invite and liaise with participants, conduct interviews, transcribe and analyse data and perform other duties assigned by the project investigators. The appointment will commence on 1 September 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter, until 31 December 2023, for a period of around 16 months.

For the post of Post-doctoral Fellow, applicants should have a Doctoral Degree in English Language Education, Education, or a related field.

For the post of Senior Research Assistant, applicants should have a Master’s Degree in English Language Education, Education, or a related field, plus one-year post Master’s degree full-time work experience, or a Doctoral Degree.

Applicants should possess the competence to conduct data collection and analysis independently. They should have high proficiency in spoken Cantonese and English, excellent communication skills, and good written English. Preference will be given to those who are familiar with qualitative research methods and the use of NVivo. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
