Job Description

Department of Early Childhood Education

The Department of Early Childhood Education, one of the academic departments established under the Faculty of Education and Human Development, aspires to be a leading regional centre for the study of Early Childhood Education and Family Science working collaboratively with schools and service organizations locally and internationally. We work extensively with educators, middle school leaders, professionals, policy makers, and scholars from around the world on and actively take part in various school development projects, knowledge transfer and academic exchange activities. We are committed to delivering and promoting quality practices in all our endeavours.

Applicants should have strong track record in teaching one /several areas of early childhood education set out below:

Family and Community; Curriculum and Pedagogy; Language and Literacy; Special Need Education; Music; Art & Drama; Policy & Leadership; Teachers’ Professional Development; Numeracy & STEM, and Use of technology in Early Childhood Education.

The successful candidate(s) will participate in activities related to teaching, project supervision, field experience supervision, guidance to students in the capacity of personal tutors, etc. They are expected to contribute to curriculum and programme development, programme and course management and participate in departmental activities and represent the Department in various committees, and provide good service contributions to the University and the community.

For the post of Senior Lecturer II, applicants should have a Master’s degree in a relevant subject discipline plus a minimum of 8 years’ relevant post-qualification teaching experience in relevant subject applied for; or preferably a Doctoral degree plus a minimum of 3 years’ relevant post-qualification teaching experience in the subject applied for.

For the post of Lecturer I, applicants should have a Master’s degree in a relevant subject discipline plus a minimum of 4 years’ relevant post-qualification teaching experience in the subject applied for. Applicants who have less relevant post-qualification teaching experience in the subject applied for will be considered for the post of Lecturer II.

Applicants should preferably possess a relevant professional teaching certificate, e.g. PGDE or qualification of Qualified Teacher Status recognized by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong or other qualification of equivalence. Proven evidence of quality teaching and/or successful record of relevant professional experience at Kindergarten level is required. Bilingual competency in both English and Chinese and an appreciation of the challenges of working in a multicultural context will be advantageous. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe benefits include contract-end gratuity, leave, medical and dental benefits.
