Job Description
The Role
The Principal Software Engineer is a hands-on technology leadership role. As a technology leader, Principal Software Engineers have accountability for technical alignment, health, capability and productivity of an engineering team.
- Reporting to Engineering Manager
- Responsible for leading the team or a number of direct reports
- Key stakeholders include:
- Engineering Manager/Head of Engineering
- Product Manager/Head of Product
- Architecture team
- Security team
- Data & Insight team
- Key accountabilities include
- Designing and building systems that are aligned with SEEKs overall product & technology strategy.
Ensuring systems are fit for purpose, well architected, contribute to and follow SEEK’s current engineering practices
Maintaining platform health ensuring that our systems are secure, reliable and resilient.
Driving customer focus to ensure that we are delivering great outcomes for our customers.
Growing the technical capabilities through coaching and mentoring.

Experience
- Leading a software engineering team and improving overall software delivery performance
- Architecting, building and operating highly scalable, available, performant and secure solutions
- Building and maintaining solutions in multiple stacks
- Collaborating with stakeholders to understand business challenges and customer needs, remove bottlenecks, and identify new opportunities for growth.
- Facilitating product and/or application definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs.

- Designs and develops cloud-native software
- Creates software in a modern software development language
- Uses domain driven design, design patterns and data modelling to build software products
- Uses current technical practices such as writing clean, testable code and pair programming
- Analyse and solve complex technical problems
- Make critical technical decisions and trade-offs
