Job Description

The Role
The Practice Manager (Asia Pacific) is responsible for the overall operations of one of the People, Delivery and Engineering streams that establish and maintain practices to enable high performing software development teams across SEEK’s Engineering teams. The Practice Manager (Asia Pacific) will be a member of the Engineering Practices, Asia Pacific, Leadership Team.

The role is bespoke to the Engineering context, based on Engineering-specific priorities or industry leading practices. The key objectives of the role are to:
  • Support the APAC Head of Engineering Practices in setting the strategic direction and lead the growth of business and management of all facets of the Practice
  • Facilitate the evolution of SEEK’s APAC Engineering organisation by understanding the needs and barriers for leaders and team members in technology teams in ANZ and Asia. to enable leaders and team members to focus on delivering customer and business value
Oversight of workflow and resource management to enable Practice Leads and team members. Reporting into the Head of Engineering Practices, Asia Pacific, this role has line management responsibility where required.

Key Responsibilities

The Practice Manager – Asia Pacific supports the APAC Head of Engineering Practices in; setting the strategic direction of the function, help lead the growth of business, and management of all facets of the Practices team. Practice Managers will work and collaborate with various strategic project teams and functions as well as the Tech community to build relevant solutions and services in line with the Technology Strategy.

People
  • Co-create thought leadership for relevant stream and collaborate with other Practice Managers & Leads as required
  • Support attraction & retention strategies/programs for world class technologists
  • Support & influence the development and delivery of Diversity & Inclusion activities across Engineering as defined in the Diversity & Inclusion and Women in Technology strategies.
  • Lead through change, applying SEEK’s change principles to deliver effective change management
  • Lead recruitment and onboarding of permanent and contractor team members in line with SEEK’s hiring process
Line management:
  • Accountable for managing individual performance and professional growth, including personal development and/or leadership capabilities via coaching and mentoring
  • Grow team member functional capabilities either directly through line management & coaching efforts or indirectly through technical leaders
Direct management of a team
  • Create and maintain a robust team culture that embraces delivery, ownership, teamwork, learning and continual improvement.
  • Foster team well-being by promoting safety, inclusivity, fun and diversity of thought.
Delivery
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Surfacing information and metrics from initiatives that impact broader business considerations to allow stakeholder decision-making and governance
  • Leadership, ownership and oversight of intiaitiaves through identification, design and build and BAU, using a test and learn approach.
  • Career Development & Growth: lead the design, delivery, and maintenance of practices led programs for individuals and leaders to grow their technology careers
  • Career Pathing and Position Description Development: improve/evolve technology career pathways as required, in line with business needs and against industry leading practice. Establish and maintain the right supporting mechanisms for leaders to support team member career progression.
  • Accountable for achieving strategic metrics and direct accountability for initiatives within their domain
  • Collaboration with Engineering Directors, people leaders and HR stakeholders- Business Partner(s), Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, OD, Comms and Finance to ensure we are supporting and delivering the right outcomes for the business
  • Drive strategy development, proof of concepts, point of views and frameworks for relevant stream
  • Collaborate across APAC teams & ecosystems, to build processes, systems & capabilities that support the APAC Engineering community
Other responsibilities
  • Position the APAC Practices team as a recognised thought leader and enabling function by and for the Engineering delivery teams and leadership.
  • Evangelising and engaging the internal and external software engineering community.
  • Whilst this role is focused on Engineering, the Practice Manager - Asia Pacific should also identify opportunity for alignment with software development team practices across SEEK
  • Lead technical learning and development programs to support technical skills uplift  (Technical Practice Manager only)
  • To deliver on the above, strong collaboration is required with Engineering Directors, people leaders and HR stakeholders- Business Partner(s), Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, OD, Comms and Finance. As the Practices model evolves, this may include leading several team members to deliver on some of these responsibilities.
  • Whilst this role is focused on Engineering, the Practices Lead - Asia Pacific should also identify opportunities for alignment with software development team practices across Technology (e.g., CIO, CTSO) and the broader SEEK community where appropriate.
To deliver on the above, strong collaboration is required with Engineering Directors, people leaders and HR stakeholders- Business Partner(s), Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, OD, Comms and Finance. As the Practices model evolves, this may include leading several team members to deliver on some of these responsibilities.

Whilst this role is focused on Engineering, the Practices Lead - Asia Pacific should also identify opportunities for alignment with software development team practices across Technology (e.g., CIO, CTSO) and the broader SEEK community where appropriate.

  • Experience in having accountability of large initiatives in line with overall organisational strategy and business goal

  • Prior experience working in APAC based organisations
  • Prior experience in one of the following technology roles is ideal:
- Software Development / Engineering / Data Engineering / Software Architecture / Quality Assurance
- Delivery / Engineering Management,
- Product Management
- IT Operations or Enterprise Applications Management
- IT Business Analysis / Iteration Management
- Strategy or Management Consulting
- Organisational Development / Design or relevant HR role
The Team
APAC Engineering Practices team role is to help SEEKers have productive and fulfilling technology careers by creating and supporting systems that enable APAC technology teams to succeed. Organised based on addressing shared problems across People, Delivery and Technical Engineering Practices, the APAC Practices team primarily consists of Practice Leads to design solutions with the operational support of Senior Practice Specialists, Practice Specialists and Practice Coordinators.
