Job Description
West Island School is looking for a Development & Communications Manager on a full-time basis. This is a permanent full-time position starting in August 2022 with Annual Leave and Medical Coverage benefits.
ROLE SUMMARY
- Responsible for the management of print publications, advertising, marketing efforts and major fundraising initiatives in coordination with the Principal and ESF Centre. Position could be either a 12 month contract or active for 11 months of each year with the option of unpaid leave during the summer holidays to suit a working professional with young children.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communications:
- Oversee internal and external communications (hard and soft), ensuring all communications are to a high standard: proofread, edit and meet branding guidelines
- Distribute communications through school App and email, ensuring all communication is streamlined
- Respond to and resolve requests for information, clarification, and assistance which arise
- Work collaboratively with the school community to develop and edit school communications including weekly bulletin, PTA magazine (quarterly), yearbook, annual report, staff handbooks, brochures, programmes, micro-sites, etc.
- Promote the school by monitoring and developing the school website and social media accounts
- Attend Communication Development meetings at ESF Centre
- Respond to Press requests and log all press involving the school
- Co-ordinate official school photographs eg liaise with the photographer, prepare schedules and book venues.
- Manage Display Coordinator so that internal communication boards are attractive, and updated
- Promote the school to internal stakeholders.
Alumni Development:
- Support development of the Alumni Association through ESF Connect and collaborating with ESF Alumni Development central team
- Manage Alumni website and database of members, keeping content and information as up to date and complete as possible
- Promote Alumni Association to leaving students, support organisation and promotion of events as needed eg Alumni Reunions
- Create and develop publications and communications for Alumni e.g. websites, annual brochures, regular newsletters, and other social media options
- Collaborate with Careers Team to identify Alumni opportunities for publicity – alumni panels, etc.
Events:
- Assisting with organising and marketing of school events from the creation of peripherals to managing ticket sales and handling PR
Community Development:
- Develop and direct strategy for the communications and fundraising programmes
- Support fundraising initiatives, including those of the PTA
Marketing:
- Collaborate with Admissions secretary and Business Manager to develop marketing strategies and activities for ongoing admissions
- Promote school profile to external audiences for attracting new students
General:
- Assist with general office enquiries, visitors & telephones when required
- Support effective communication in response to crisis situations such as inclement weather warnings
- Lead and develop communications and basic graphics production training sessions for staff or student activities
- Oversee student yearbook CAS activity.
Performs other duties and assumes accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives

REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE
- Educated to a Degree Level
- At least 3 years of relevant experience
ABILITIES
- Excellent hands-on experience producing high quality publications for online and offline media
- Accurate data entry and administrative support
- Willingness to maintain professional competency through professional development and networking
KNOWLEDGE
- Excellent native-level written and spoken English
- Microsoft Office software including Publisher & Powerpoint
- Graphic and website design software
COMPETENCIES
- Attention to details and Interpersonal skills
- Able to multitask and manage time effectively with good time management skills
- Excellent Communication skills (English medium, Cantonese is not essential)
- Written English to a high standard.
- Independent, competent to work under pressure
- Interest in working with students
