Main Purpose of Job: 

The main purpose of the role is to lead, manage and deliver compliance activities across the SJP group. Key activities include continuing the Company’s engagement with the Insurance Authority and SFC in the Company’s day to day activities as well as projects, ensuring compliance of the Company to rules set by the two regulators. Some experience of risk management also a plus.

Key Responsibilities of the Job:   

• To have a keen understanding of regulations impacting the key activities of the Company, and to establish and formulate standards, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
• To advise the CEO of the Company of viable and commercial solutions based on the appropriate regulations.
• To monitor new and emerging regulations, codes and guidelines impacting the key activities of the Company, including leading any lobbying activities to influence the outcome of any consultations and putting in plans to deliver any changes required in the Company to meet the new regulations.
• To develop and maintain strong working relationships with the broker channel (St. James’s Place Hong Kong Limited and the Partnership), both in compliance oversight and in driving for clean business.
• To ensure the Company is in compliance of all its Anti-Money Laundering obligations across all the jurisdictions that impacts the Company and the group.
• To develop and maintain strong working relationships with the other entities within St. James’s Place group.
• To review and approve changes relevant to the Company’s business (e.g. product literature, system developments, procedure change requests, third party agreements and fund deductions) from a Hong Kong compliance perspective.
• To ensure the maintenance a record of all material compliance obligations and regulatory submissions, including accuracy of the records and submissions relevant to the company’s business.
• To assist in the risk management of the Company.

Requirements of the Job:  

• Familiarity with GL16 and GL26 a plus.
• Prior hands-on compliance experience with a Hong Kong authorised life insurance company; ILAS experience will be an advantage.
• Familiarity with all relevant existing and new regulations relating to the running of the Company.
• Ability to come up with commercial decisions and processes with said understanding of the regulations.
• Experience in engaging with Insurance Authority and SFC.
• Experience of advising Board Members and presenting at Board and Board Committee level
• Must satisfy the Insurance Authority’s requirements for a Key Person in Compliance functions, in particular to have not less than 5 years’ experience in compliance within a life insurance company.
