Job Description
Applications are invited for appointment as Chief Commercial Officer (Ref.: H01/2024/052), on a fixed-term basis.
Candidates should possess:
- University degree in a field related to biotechnology and biomedical instrumentation, an additional MBA/ EMBA degree highly preferred;
- 10-15 years of post-qualification professional experience, with at least 5 years of senior management experience;
- Solid hands-on experience in managing the entire startup lifecycle using university-invented technologies, including company formation, technology transfer and commercial scale-up;
- Successful experience in commercializing biomedical engineering technologies highly desirable;
- Hands-on experience in handling patent prosecution, IP asset transactions and defending IP rights via arbitration or litigation;
- Operational experience in setting up and running companies in China’s Greater Bay Area preferred;
- Solid commercial and people management experience in both enterprise-facing and consumer-facing products or services, covering publicity and PR management, advertising and marketing communications, sales team management, dealership management, etc.;
- Experience in managing companies through the incubation/ acceleration programmes of Hong Kong Science Park and Cyberport an advantage, with hands-on experience in the admission, assessment and operation processes;
- Strong networks with venture capitalists in Hong Kong and overseas that invest in seed stage, series pre-A or series A companies;
- Proven experience and relationships with government/ quasi-government bodies and NGOs;
- Excellent command of English and Chinese (including Mandarin and Cantonese).
Strong preference will be given to candidates who meet all the above requirements, but we also welcome applications from individuals who possess a combination of relevant skills, experience, and potential.
The appointee will report to the Managing Director of ABIC and lead the Centre’s commercial efforts in building technology ventures, running commercial operations with the private sector, negotiating with Hong Kong, Mainland China and international organizations to drive innovation ecosystems, providing expertise to operate an enabling platform which helps accelerate and coordinates the development of start-up companies that use the Centre’s technologies, and nurturing young talents who will run and lead technology businesses. He/she will also work closely with internal and external stakeholders including academic partners, government departments and legal/ financial professionals; and perform other duties as assigned. He/She may be required to work outside normal office hours and on weekends. Business travels will be required. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview and maybe a written test as well.
