Job Posting Details
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is looking for a responsible, self-motivated and high-caliber individual to fill the position of Senior Technical Officer. The appointee will be required to monitor the technical operations of key research laboratories for research engineering projects by utilizing standard operating procedures, deploying good laboratory practices, and responding to laboratory emergencies.
Major duties of the appointees include:
- Performing regular calibrations and maintenance on stationary analytical instruments (e.g. EPR, HPLC, TOC, IC, etc.) and engineering equipment ensuring that they are functional and safe to use;
- Liaising with internal and external parties and/or suppliers to procure relevant instruments / equipment / consumables in supporting core projects / researches;
- Providing advice and technical supports to research staff and postgraduate students in their related research work;
- Establishing and maintaining safety documentation, such as risk assessments, safety audits and standard operating procedures for laboratory and field activities;
- Implementing new safety procedures and advising research staff and students when required; and
- Performing ad hoc tasks as assigned by the management.
Applicants should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience in higher education sector, including experience in supervising technicians and managing a research laboratory. The ideal candidate should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua), as well as good planning, analytical and problem-solving skills. The appointee is expected to be pro-active, innovative, detail-minded, well-organized and a good team player. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
