Job Description

The duties of the Library Manager are as follows:

(i) To assist in the project preparation for the commissioning and opening of the new library.

(ii) To assist in planning, preparing for the library project, monitoring its progress and its compliance with the library requirements, and assisting in the administrative and operational matters of the new library, including venue setup as well as a smooth preparation of library opening

(iii) To assist in hiring of various services and acquisition of furniture, equipment, and miscellaneous supplies, including drafting the specifications, communicating with suppliers to ensure the quality of goods and services and their compliance with library requirements.

(iv) To assist in stock editing and conducting preliminary searches to facilitate the selection of library materials to build up various thematic collections for the new library.

(v) To coordinate with other libraries, sections, departments, contractors, and external organizations regarding the opening of the library, and to liaise with library users, schools and non-government organizations to promote library facilities and services.

(vi) To assist in the implementation of library promotional projects (including liaison work with library users and local organizations), preparation and editing of publicity materials, reading guides, collaborating with community partners to enhance library outreach programmes in order to promote library services and reading activities.

(vii) To assist in monitoring the relocation works of bookshelves and books, coordinating with different users to facilitate the relocation of their books kept during the transition period. To assist in conducting stock taking after the relocation works are completed.

(viii)To perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers.

Entry Requirements

The minimum qualification requirements of the Library Manager are as follows:

(i)

Have a bachelor's degree from an university of Hong Kong, or equivalent:

(ii)

Possess "Level 3" or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent [See Note];

(iii) Have at least two years full-time post qualification working experience;

(iv) Have good written commands in Chinese and English;

(v)

Proficiency in speaking Cantonese and English; ability to speak Putonghua will be an advantage;

(vi) Be self-motivated, mature and capable to work independently and in a team; (vii) Possess a customer-focused orientation and good communication skills; (viii) Have good knowledge of computer skills and knowledge in common computer applications software including MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and Chinese word processing, and

(ix) Preference might be given to those with experience in libraries or event management.

Note: "Grade C in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 3' in English Language and Chinese Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
