Job Description
DEPARTMENT OF DATA SCIENCE AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Information Technology Officer (Ref. 240524005-IE)
The Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) is a multi-disciplinary department to be established with effect from 1 July 2024 and temporarily hosted under the Faculty of Engineering with a plan to transfer to a new Faculty to be established later. DSAI will be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology and innovation, driving forward the fields of Data Science (DS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) provide day-to-day desktop and end-user IT support and troubleshooting services related to IT facilities and equipment, including IT software and hardware, computer networks, servers, Cloud server systems, audio-visual systems and websites;
(b) facilitate the procurement of IT facilities and equipment for the Unit;
(c) prepare annual budget for IT hardware and software for the Unit;
(d) carry out technical assistance and support to meetings, seminars, hybrid teaching and online examinations, and activities such as video conferencing and live video streaming;
(e) design and execute in-house IT solutions to enhance the Unit’s efficiency;
(f) formulate IT related guidelines and procedures for users;
(g) enhance user experience in teaching, learning and other administrative functions;
(h) maintain close communication and collaboration with internal units, particularly with the Information Technology Services Office, as well as liaise with external vendors in the development and/or implementation of IT related matters;
(i) keep an updated record of and the disposal of various IT-related inventory items;
(j) manage and supervise daily operations performed by IT team members;
(k) support in the operation of departmental health and safety issues; and
(l) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a recognized degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline;
(b) have at least five years of relevant post-qualification experience, preferably in sizable academic institutions;
(c) have high proficiency in various operating systems, such as Linux, Windows, Windows Server, MacOS, iOS, Android, etc., with a good command of common desktop applications;
(d) have solid experience in supporting PC software and hardware, networking technologies, server administration and audio-visual equipment;
(e) have solid experience in Microsoft Office 360 and MS Office Application automation tools such as Power Automate, macros and VBA;
(f) have solid programming knowledge of and experience in ASP, PHP, Java, Python, JavaScript and SQL, and experience in development tools such as Python;
(g) have basic knowledge of classroom audio-visual facilities that implemented with AVoIP architecture;
(h) have the ability to work independently, proactively and under pressure in providing consultation to staff and students on the use of the network, PCs and audio-visual related equipment;
(i) have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage;
(j) have good project management, analytical and problem-solving skills;
(k) have good communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; and
(l) be a good team player.
Preference will be given to those who have knowledge of eLearning platforms and experience in supporting online teaching and learning in an educational environment.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
