About the opportunity
Working in a close-knit and supportive HR team, the Senior HR Manager will provide tailored generalist HR support and advice to management and employees in Hong Kong. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate with a detail-oriented and responsible mindset who is ready to move to next step of their career. The successful candidate will report to and working closely with the HR Director to ensure that Walkers follow a best practice approach to people management and HR operations.
The Senior HR Manager will have a range of HR responsibilities including:
- Manage Law Society of Hong Kong compliance and related applications including Registered Foreign Lawyer applications and renewals, change of jurisdictions, supervision proposal and application for removal, and change of supervisor.
- Assist all registered foreign lawyers in the maintenance of their admissions and practicing status, in any jurisdictions including and not restricted to England & Wales, Australia, Bermuda, BVI, Cayman Islands.
- Ensure the firm is fully compliant with the Law Society of Hong Kong rules and regulations set out in the Professional Guide.
- Working closely with the HR team to manage full spectrum of employee experience including onboarding, compensation and benefits, performance management and offboarding.
- Manage HR-related inquiries and activities including managing absence, disciplinary, grievance, advising and supporting, coaching and termination.
- Work closely with Global Resourcing team to facilitate recruitment activities and hiring requirements, attending interviews evaluating candidates with hiring partners/managers as required.
- Supervise HR Administrator in handling application of employment visa and other applications with the Hong Kong Immigration Department.
- Work closely with the HR Director in liaising with external providers with regards to private medical, life assurance and pension, including assisting with the annual renewal process.
- Work closely with the HR Director on compensation and benefits including payroll, benchmarking salary and benefits for the Firm
- Be proactive in ensuring all Firm global policies and procedures are up to date in line with current employment law in Hong Kong.
- Lead and participate in HR-related initiatives and projects as required.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in HR; additional HR certification/qualification preferred
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in HR in the legal industry
- Experience in resolving complex employee relations issues
- Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and respective employment laws.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Technically strong HR generalist with a minimum of 8 years' experience working in the legal industry, ideally in an offshore law firm operating across multiple jurisdictions.
- Proven ability to identify, scope and implement commercial and pragmatic HR solutions in response to business needs.
- Excellent English and Chinese communication skills and be able to communicate internally and externally both written and verbally.
- A good team player with strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
- Strong organisational skills, including planning and time management to enable effective prioritisation of multiple activities.
- Working knowledge of Hong Kong Employment Law and the Law Society of Hong Kong essential
- Experience and proficiency with HRIS and other HR related applications
