Job Description
The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority welcomes exceptional talent with a passion to realise the vision and mission of making the West Kowloon Cultural District a prime local and international destination for arts, culture and entertainment.
You will be responsible for:
- contributing to the efficient running and maintenance of the Technical and Production Team’s work; ensuring that all technical requirements are fulfilled in a safe and professional manner in accordance with WKCDA’s high standards of delivery to its users;
- supporting the Technical and Productions Team on the technical operations for Performing Arts venues in the district, and cooperating with various parties in the planning and execution of production;
- participating in the supervision of teams of technicians; and supporting on the compliance with all WKCDA’s policies, health & safety procedures and statutory regulations;
- excelling at your area of specialisation for the delivery of technical elements of productions, events and visiting companies; carrying out risk assessments and creating method statements as required by any tasks or activities you undertake;
- taking an active role in the planned preventative maintenance, assisting in managing technical storage and stock control of the theatre’s technical equipment and infrastructure; and
- assisting in delivering staff inductions and training assessments and keeping up-to-date with current theatre technology and industry best practice.
You should:
- possess at least 5 subjects at Level 2 / Grade E or above in the HKDSEE / HKCEE or equivalent academic qualification, and
- A minimum of 6 years full-time technical experience in theatre with demonstrable experience in production creation, realisation and running productions and performances, operation and maintenance of theatrical equipment and infrastructure, OR
- At least an accredited advanced diploma in Theatre Technical Arts or equivalent technical qualification from a recognised tertiary education with a minimum of 3 years relevant working experience in theatre.
- have demonstrable experience of working in a professional theatre or performing arts environment;
- have sound knowledge of safe working practice and legislation in the theatre environment, such as working at height, flying system operation, operation of winches and motors, use of lifting or access equipment, stage and sceneries fit-up and set-up; rigging of theatre equipment such as lighting, sound, projectors, scenery and drapes;
- be experienced in operating and maintaining stage machinery, theatre flying system, theatre technical equipment such as light, sound, projector and show control equipment, as well as running stage fit-ups and get-outs;
- demonstrate ability in mastering theatre plans, sections, and design drawings, and understanding of modern theatre production techniques with practical knowledge and experience of creating and interpreting of technical drawings, specifications, and design documentation; and
- have experience of training theatre technical team on technical skills and facilitating familiarisation of work environment and equipment, as well as scheduling and supervising staff and casual labours.
- be computer literate in AutoCAD and MS Office suite including Outlook and Excel, preferably with knowledge in creating and interpreting of technical drawings, specifications, and design documentation; and
- specialise in theatre lighting is preferred. Proficiency in operating lighting console (e.g. ETC EOS, Grand MA)
- strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skill
- be proficient in written and spoken English and Chinese.
