Job Description
Our tax practice revolves around helping our clients effectively manage their tax obligations proactively and responsibly. As part of a global team of 35,000 tax professionals in 150 countries, you will advise clients on planning, compliance and reporting wherever the client has needs. Groups (or, as we call them – sub-service lines) within Tax include Business Tax Services, Global Compliance and Reporting, Human Capital, Indirect Tax Services, International Tax and Transaction Services.
As part of our International Tax and Transaction Services team, you will advise private equity funds, institutional investors and multinational corporates on all tax aspects of their transactions including tax due diligence and deal structuring, as well as helping clients to manage all aspects of a tax function, including managing global tax risks and meeting cross-border tax obligations.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage international and Hong Kong transaction tax engagements on a day-to-day basis including conducting buy-side and sell-side tax due diligence, structuring deals in a tax efficient manner, reviewing tax matters in relation to deal team financial models and transaction documentation, and identifying tax planning opportunities and risks
- Provide timely and high-quality international tax advice that exceeds client expectations in relation to restructures, refinancing and disposals of investments including preparation of Hong Kong tax analysis and co-ordinating with overseas EY offices for the provision of the offshore analysis
- Develop technical competence by keeping up-to-date on legislative developments and trends / practice of tax authorities in Hong Kong and the wider Asia Pacific region, and apply this knowledge to complex client situations
- Build client relationships and assist partners / directors with generating new business opportunities
- Provide ongoing performance feedback, coaching and mentoring to junior team members
- Foster a positive team culture by encouraging collaboration, knowledge sharing and open communication
Experience, qualifications and skills
To qualify, candidates must have:
- An undergraduate degree, preferably with an emphasis in accounting, taxation, economics, finance or law (an advanced degree in taxation, accounting, economics or law is desirable)
- A minimum of 5 years (Manager) and 8 years (Senior Manager) of relevant tax advisory services’ experience gained from Big four firms or sizable public accounting firm or as in-house tax advisor, with at least 3 years at a managerial level leading client engagements (for Senior Manager level); Candidate with less experience will be considered as Senior
- Strong tax technical skills with Hong Kong experience (with any other jurisdictions a plus)
- Team player with strong communication skills
- Excellent command of spoken and written English (with Mandarin and/or Cantonese an advantage)
Ideally, you will also have:
- M&A tax and international tax advisory experience
- Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
- Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to sustain an opinion and handle challenges
